    Re: dice and hitreg

I never use the play now button.I always pick servers close to me.I live in Seattle and when I join Seattle servers it is just as bad,if not worse.
Also, even though this is going on,I do win alot, but there are plenty of people way better than me.My current rank is 760 or something close.I think I have a pretty decent k/d ratio for never getting into vehicles,so I really don't think it's just me sucking.Honestly,I don't know what it is.The same thing happened with BF2,and I have gone through about 6 or 7 completely new computer builds since that game first came out.
It's not a constant thing, but it is there.
Other people are having the same issues. It's not that far of a stretch to say that Dice has bad hitreg in their games.

Occam's Razor would lead me to believe that the options A and C are most likely and that D is somewhat probable, while E and B are least likely.

I used the "play now" option a few times and ended up on UK servers (I'm west coast US) and had some lag issues and my PC crashed once (heh). So far I haven't had any hitreg issues though.
Except that your conclusion is completely wrong once we take into account two things.
      A) In comparison, COD4 hit detection is brilliant, even if (and here comes the fun part) youre on mobile internet, with WiFi connection 5 kilometres between you and the mast.
      B) We already know that BF games hit detection has been wonky in the past, giving them the benefit of the doubt without any proof for any other conclusion strikes me as a little on the fanboy side.

Considering A, how some games are brilliant and others are not (in their hit registration) and B, DICEs history, D becomes "most likely".

I would think that "E" becomes most likely in that case, not "D."

          Re: dice and hitreg

I think Chris meant to type "E".

The problem as some people mentioned isn't something that happens every time we play but happens enough to know a problem exists.

Lets remove "lack of skill" from the probable causes for a minute. Skill plays no part in this argument when everyone is stating that they can empty and entire clip into someone without killing them. I've played a decent amount of BF2 so I know a bad hitreg when I see one. I'm talking about controlled burst fire into your enemies back not wild spray and pray shooting. I'm talking about firing on an enemy who does not see you and having to reload before you can take him down. Whats even more frustrating is that I didnt experience any of this on the PS3 beta. It just sucks that even after the huge disaster that BF2 was with its hitreg, Dice can't seem to get it right 4 years later. I'm still gonna buy the game but I'm really hoping Dice finds a solution for this problem. Its obviously a PC only problem because I've played the 360 and PS3 demo and neither share the problem.

Lets also not forget about the phantom hit reg problems on the PS3. From what I understand, because I find any official threads, is that everyone on the PS3 beta said hitreg was bad and messed up. The demo came out and everyone said, "Thanks DICE for fixing this." Then DICE mentions that they didn't fix anything, but agrees that the hitreg is better.

Thats pretty strange and I sure dont understand it.

              Re: dice and hitreg

Okay, so I just ran an experiment to try and figure out what was causing my hit reg problems. I thought about the changes I made prior to experiencing the problem and proceeded from there. When I first started playing the beta, hit reg wasn't a problem. It was more a performance issue more than anything. Only after I installed Windows 7 and my 5870 did I have problems with the hit reg. My performance issues went away but all of a sudden my bullets were not registering. Before I upgraded my video card I was running Windows XP and directX 9. I decided to revert back to DX9 by editing the ini setting files to see if there would be a difference. My first game in, running DX9, I score over 10000 points!!! I didn't play any different than before but I had gained improved performance combined with my hit reg returning to normal. Short controlled burst from my assualt rifle yielded me very positive results. I was able to take most opponents down within 3-4 burst depending on the distance. In some cases I was able to even kill someone in 2 bursts!!

I need to see if I'm onto something here and would appreciate it if some of you running DX10 and higher revert to DX9 and see if you get the same outcome that I did.

In order to do this just go to MY DOCUMENTS>BFBCBETA>SETTINGS>and change dxversion=auto, to dxversion=9

If anyone does this, it would also be interesting if we could get FRAPS benchmarks before and after.

                  This is disturbing.

Nic,I will try that experiment today sometime

I did that dxversion tweak in a attempt to get higher fps rates and since than everything is much better when it comes to hit-regs.

jake probably got it right. When I first played the game and used the play now button I was teleporting around the battlefield. It was fun for a second but then I used the server browser to find servers in my area. So far the ping I got was around 30 and no lag issues so far.

maybe more a ping issue or slow reg?

It seems better now in dx9, but for the love of god these guns are like toys, espesially from longer distances. And the guns are extremely inaccurate.I can't count how many times i've put 3 bursts into someones head and they don't die,and then the sniper will just 1 shot me.FFS Dice up the weapone damage. It's fairly gay.The assault rifles especially. The only reliable weapon for me is the noob tube, and that is just retarded.

Very very rare hit reg problems. So tempted to say none.

ISP download speed of ~500KB/s or ~3Mb/s
                            Average ping of 80-120

I had common hit reg problems in BF2.

yeah but some others may have 20Mbits or even higher speeds(40-50 MB) or someone might jump on with 200 ping, there is the problem?

my pings 60 but some are lower and hit me because my hitreg lag!or in turn others are 120 ping and i own them!

Lag is a different issue form bad hitreg.
If your are standing behind a stationary sniper and not one of your bullets register, then obviously you are seeing a problem with hitreg.
But being unable to hit a moving target is often a symptom of lag.

I see people complaining that they get blood splashes form the target, but not hit indication. As far as I remember BF used to handle blood/dust/whatever clientside, while the actual hit detection is done serverside. So that would again be a symptom of lag.
