I think Heroes really is the worst BF game ever, though. I tried playing again over the weekend while I was getting some clan mates set up with the BF Veterans stuff. It's basically a free veteran rank, so I got them all to sign up and we tried to get together to play a round. Half of us CTD'd after five minutes on top of the annoying gameplay...

To be honest I dont think any of your points are valid except those relating to the bugs. But you complain about enough core features that I think you should just avoid the game.
However, I think many if you will be in for a nasty surprise when BF3 is released. The BF series has evolved, like it or not.
I agree that the word "boycott" has been abused and overused.
"I do not think it means what you think it means."
In this case it would just be, "To buy or not buy, that is the question." There aren't the kinds of problems that would warrant a boycott at all.

    Reasons to boycott:
Removal of integral features such as dedicated servers, anti-cheat, mouse support or widescreen support
Lies and insults from an official representative of the development studio (or their whole chain of command in one horrible instance)

    NOT reasons to boycott:
    Lack of lean/prone
    Unoptimized performance in a beta
    imperfect hitreg in a beta

16 maps in the retail at least, confirmed by DICE.

As for the reg, I hear loads of people complaining about it, but I've never had a problem. Do you use Join Now or the server browser? Join Now likes to drop you in servers as far away as possible. I was actually impressed by the hit reg, when I was sniping I couldn't miss. Totally the opposite to BF2.

I see no evidence of a console port. Just the same game made on 2 different platforms.

I like the pace no prone is forcing which I didn't think I would.

Also Kylee! I don't agree with him either but is that really necessary?

I use the server browser and connect to servers in Chicago, where I know I get 15-35ms pings. The reg can be off a bit, especially in close quarters where it matters most.

Where did you find confirmation of 16 maps? I'm only finding names and pictures for 10... Got a link?

Its nothing really like BF used to be, its closer to MW2 than BF 1942

I like the game, although i can see me getting bored of it after around 50-75 hours, whereas ive done around 600 on BF2 over the years

I think it said 16 maps on the box art but I don't remember and since google is down (I never thought it would happen ), I can't search it.

The ping in the server browser is not correct, it sais around 30-35 for me when I connect to any euro server, but when I am in the G15 tells me I have 100-200 ms. There are just some connectivity issues in the beta I think. It is not my internet btw, I am running fine at 30-40 ms in any other game.

            EDIT:
Used bing for the first time, just doesn't feel the same
I was wrong about the box though.

Wow, we get a practically free beta, which I have to say is absolutely AMAZING especially considering the numbers on the all the beta servers (most played beta on pc perhaps?). And all you can do it nit pick at things that have changed and at things that we haven't got after SO MUCH has been added.

This will be an amazing game, anyone thinking of boycotting the game has obviously just had bad experiences on a beta.

              B, FOR BUY GOD DAMNIT.

One of the devs said there would be 16 maps on Twitter as well.

I preordered the game after the PS3 beta and nothing I have seen on the PC beta has made me think twice about doing it tbh

And if that wasn't enough to keep you playing Bad Company 2, there will be at least 16 new multiplayer maps when the game ships on March 2, so get ready.
                    :)

This is true. Every BF games gets further away from what made it great in the first place. Now it's mainstream and it's devolving into something more generic.

Oh and BF isn't the first game with "dynamic" buildings.

I'll be buying this game. I did, however, stick to the boycott of the MW2. I never bought the PC version for myself.

Considering that this is a beta, I think the final game will be really good. I can't wait to play the jungle maps.

I believe the purpose of Bad Company 2 etc was to reach some sort of combination that could combine infantry flow of CoD gameplay with the vehicles, (whereas BF2 had vehicles and **** hit reg)

its a console game, we all know that, and its pretty obvious that Bad Company was never designed to be like the other battlefields we generally play

I'll pour scorn on Dice/EA like no tommorow if they turn Battlefield 3 into something else, but until then I'll be fine with what I get in the mean time

Well I have been playing as much as I can, which has been little due to a processor issue I have, but the times I have been in alone or with friends I have enjoyed it thoroughly. This is a beta and there are issues to be fixed but, if you are playing on different maps, which I feel are bigger than the vanilla BF2 maps, you find the team play is great. I still play JO and I am used to maps that are massive in size, playing with 100+ people is great. I find that the 32 player is a bit restrictive to us that still play the old game, but it makes up for that in the map sizes and the destructive nature of the game. Prone would be nice, but seriously, do you really have time to go prone at the moment? I know I haven't, its move or die quickly. I look forward to what this game will be bringing to us. 21CW will be using for there tournament in a few months so if like team play, there you will find it in an organized manner. Hopefully mod tools and map tools will be available, who knows for sure at this point.
It is different than BF2, but the gaming industry evolves very quickly now a days, and we will have to hang on for the ride or get left behind, this is from someone that still is playing Joint Ops., Simply put, buy it or don't, we all have the choice.

                              I will buy it if:

The final release sees enormous performance boosts. Currently it is very playable when nothing happens on the battlefield.
Once the action starts the performance drops... badly. Unplayable.
