Hardcore mode available!

Looks like some servers are running hardcore mode. Just hopped into a server. No reticule, no minimap, had to bring up the proper map for that. Definitely more damage from weapons.

Was this a update server side, or something they just figured out they could unlock, cause I didn't see a update notice, but then again steam could have auto updated and I'd never know.

There will be a Hardcore mode for the full game and I wouldn't be suprised if game hosts already has the ability to change that in the server configs.

Some providers are just turning it on. I havent found a way to find out what is or is not hardcore though.

I wish they could do it without increasing damage from weapons. Weapons already kill sufficiently fast enough, no reason everything has to be a near OHK. I like the idea of no crosshairs and minimap, though.

If you enter a game and notice there's not floating crosshairs then you are in hardcore mode. I played a round last night on hardcore. Was fun.

I've been looking forward to trying this mode out. Can anyone give a bit more detail on what the differences are?

Tried it and I LOOOOOOVE it.

Guns actually kill people now! And you can't spot tanks and people. It's great tactical fun! Its what this game should have been out of the box :)

I love it too, always played hardcore in COD 4 an 5. However it's always better to have the option, that was the one badthing about BF2 was just one game mode, and then eventually they added infantry mode, which I didn't care for, however any variety is good. It's another reason there are 4 game modes for this game, along with each of them I'm presuming being able to be played in hardcore mode.

What I meant to say is that hardcore should be standard, and then there should be a "softcore" mode. IMHO hardcore was way better on COD4 than softcore

I wish they would come up with better names, COD "Hardcore" isn't anymore hardcore than standard. In fact it completely breaks what little weapon balance there was in COD.

I haven't encountered hardcore in this game yet, but I hope there still is a difference between a pistol and a LMG

A server with hardcore on does the following:

No Kill Cam
Friendly fire is on
More realistic damage to soldiers from weapons (dont know if its 1 shot kill havent tried it).
No gameplay HUD elements of any kind i.e. crosshair, mini-map, enemy icons.

Can be on all game modes and is ranked.


Mortor strike + HC ooh the pain.

^Damn, everything sounds great except the extra weapon damage. I just don't see the weapons needing this, TBH. Most guns kill pretty quickly now, are we talking all weapons are 2-hit-kills and snipers are OHKs? I guess I just die so quickly already I don't see a need to die even more quickly. :p

Am I the only one who has no problem with the weapons in the regular version?

Probably. I think the guns are MUCH to weak when you have auto regen health. In hardcore mode - it is NOT 1shot1kill. But its much better (about 3 shots to the chest on an up-armored soldier).

It's all about preference and thats why the option is there.

Personally - I love feeling like i'm firing a real weapon instead of a BB gun.

Overall its alot of fun, you really have to slow things down. Snipers are one hit kill, all others 2 -3 hit kills. Shotgun's have a bug where if you zoom in it gives you the aiming circle. Tracer dot is useless because it has no ADS and you have to do a ton of guess work to use it.
