Only the default (TGN Light) theme for now. Dark them is also coming back soon. Then CSN. Then Wrestlin' Nation. A lot of WIP stuff right now. There are a couple of things still not working either. Sorry.
This is an unoptimized BETA. The LOD models are near practically copies of LOD0. Your FPS will be way lower than it should. Wait for the demo, then decide if you need an upgrade.
The LOD models?
Besides, I don't have the cash to throw into a new GPU or CPU right now anyway.
You can see my settings on the left and I get about 60FPS on medium settings. Its a beta and its not near 100%.
If you really want to upgrade, Kylee, get 2Gig of RAM if you have a 64 bit OS. Otherwise, wait.
EDIT: No, you cant see my rig anymore Its:
Intel Q6600 @ 3.0Ghz
4Gb RAM at 1066
RAID 0 SATA drives
eVGA Nvidia GTX 275 w 896MB RAM
Soundblaster X-Fi Gamer
22' Samsung Monitor, which makes it 1680x1050
Windows 7 64bit
23" samsung at 2052 x1148, a decently high resolution. And I'm playing all maxed, 60 frames usually, and it gets around 30 in total chaos, but it's generally smooth. This is like the opposite of crysis, where nvidia had a very good advantage for a while. Hopefully drivers will get better for this game and nvidia users, cause just through relative performance My 5850 isn't much better then a GTX 275, especially at my resolution. Hopefully we can get the hardware issues out of the way quickly and then the rest of the beta on gameplay, though I suppose gameplay can be adjusted later, hardware is a heavy priority for the PC beta, especially if they are trying to woo PC players back. Some of whom still remember the crash tastic adventure of BF2 at release.
LOD (Level of Detail) models are used in game development to make better graphics available. Even at our current GPU technology without them games like Crysis would be unplayable.
LOD0 = 100% polygon count on the model (you see this up close, very detailed). Sometimes only used for the fist person view.
LOD1 = LOD0 switches to this when your a bit further away, it's a less detailed version that your GPU can render faster, but because of the distance you won't notice any change. It's about 80% of LOD0s polygon count.
LOD2 = Same again, about 50% of LOD0
LOD3 = This is used when things start to get pretty far away, eg a sniper on a hill. It's roughly 25% of LOD0s polygon count.
LOD4 is sometimes not used. But when it is it is extremely low, if you saw it up close a person in Crysis would look worse than a person in BF1942. Maybe even less detailed. When vegetation gets a LOD4 it is usually just a sprite.
Well the thing is, is that I can almost move comfortably on high settings when there is no one else in my server, but when it starts getting up to 20+ players then it starts laggin'. But if I'm by myself I get near perfect fluidity.
I would hold off on any upgrades at this point. I have found that some servers I go to are completely fine and then others are completely crap. I try and play low ping/LAT servers and yet I find that the lag varies in each. Hold off if YOU want and see how the Demo plays, then make the decision.
I agree, Mavrik. Do not upgrade your PCs yet. The beta is poorly optimized right now. Wait for final release. If your computer still can't run it, then upgrade.
There was a poll on EA's Forums asking people what OS they were using and out of around 240 votes half were using Win 7 x64 dont know if it makes a difference although ive seem people with much better rigs trying to play it on XP and having trouble, who knows.
That would make sense seeing as you have more RAM, a better GPU, annd a better CPU than I do.
Yeah, but I have the same CPU (only clocked at 2.8GHz instead of stock 2.5GHz), same amount of RAM (only all of mine is available due to a 64-bit OS), and a better GPU (GTX 280) than him. But I'm still having crap performance with this game after trying every tweak/"fix" I've been able to find. It still runs like schisse on low settings or high settings, no difference at all.
Has anyone found the magic button? What in the hell is the secret for making this game run properly? My clan mate has dual GTX 295s, an i7 975, and 6GB triple channel RAM. He gets 40-60 fps. Jesus, when did a $200 Xbox become more powerful than >$1100 in GPUs and a ~$1000 CPU?

Hmm, well ok then.
I think I would like to get in on this magic button haha.
