    Hardware upgrade in need?

    So, I'm running a 6600 @ 2.4 ghz, 2 GB of RAM, and a 9800GTX. I have to play with all my settings on low and it still likes to get pretty laggy, especially in 32 player games.

    Should I upgrade my hardware? (New GFX card, more RAM?) Or is something wrong here...

      I don't know what's going on. I have a Q9300 @ 2.6 GHz(basically one little step up from the Q6600), 4GB RAM, and a GTX 280. I'm getting between 30 and 40 FPS on LOW settings at 1920x1080. It's still playable but can feel jerky from time to time. I'm hoping a driver update or a patch will help. Either have it use more RAM, more CPU cores, or something. I can't imagine a reason for it to run and look worse on this PC than my Xbox 360 demo...

        Expletive the last Driver update for the Nvidia cards is supposed to help BC performance a ton.

        EDIT: And it definitely does. Just tried it out, definitely better performance... not really where I want it to be though.

          The Beta driver or the latest official driver?

            I found this elsewhere may help.

            You need to run the game in DX9 mode.

            My docs>BFBC2Beta>Settings.ini

            Change DXVersion from Auto to 9

            Close save.
            A very nice fps increase.

                  Tirn off AHBO in advance video settings and if having issues do this:

                  HUGE performance boost
                  This has been posted all over the internet but just in case...

                  <path to documents and settings>/BFBC2Beta/settings.ini

                  In there, if you change:

                  DxVersion=auto

                  to

                  DxVersion=9

                  The game will use Direct X 9 instead of defaulting to 10.

                    Will switching DX10 to 9 make the look and feel of the game different? Of course it does, but what I'm asking is the significance of the difference.
                    Will it look BF2'ish or still have the nice look you'd expect from a new game?

                      I did that after Scinto posted the same exact thing...

                      It didn't help my performance that much.

                      Anyone think I need to upgrade yet? Or is there something else I can do to up my FPS? Because the laggyness is really annoying...

                        When does one need to upgrade? Sure you would benefit from it, but BC2 is hard on both CPU and GPU so you are looking at a major investment if you want to make the system BC-proof.
                        Try running this: http://www.yougamers.com/gameometer/10372/

                        And you could also have FRAPS benchmark while you are playing, to make sure that its not the server itself that is lagging.

                          Need to? When the game gets to 32 players, or if I'm in a hectic situation the game becomes almost unplayable. All on low settings. And I ran the "game-o-meter" and it says that I can't play the game because apparently I have 2030 MB of RAM, and the game requires 2048. Would that really make a difference? lol.

                          Also I'm positive its not server lag, its straight FPS lag at its finest. I always play on US servers too, and on the East coast.

                          I realize an upgrade at this point could be costly... but I built the computer 3 years ago. *shrug* I feel like my CPU needs an upgrade more than anything else, as my GPU is somewhat up to date, and definitely not running at its full potential.

                            According to that YouGamers thing, I should be able to rock the game on High settings. That is totally not the case.

                            It still looks great at the lowest settings, but I'm not used to not being able to go with high settings in a game with this PC.

                              DO NOT BUY ANY HARDWARE

                              This is an unoptimized BETA. The LOD models are near practically copies of LOD0. Your FPS will be way lower than it should. Wait for the demo, then decide if you need an upgrade.
