they should honestly add up the weight of all your equipment and determine your speed. basing everything on your primary only is kinda dumb. there definitely has to be advantage given to guys who carry around pistols vs the guys who carry launchers.

They do have advantages. Like having a secondary weapon when you run out of ammo.
Do you also want those with Scavenger Pro to be slowed down by the 300 extra rounds they are carrying?
There is no need to focus too much on that kind of details, this isnt exactly a milsim.

still, a guy carrying a javelin shouldn't have the same mobility of a guy who has a revolver. this isn't asking for a milsim realism.

Why? The heavy weapons guys are slowed down to compensate for their firepower, but those carrying launchers are actually losing firepower. Their secondary is virtually useless for personal defensen

I think a much better argument could be made for slowing down those running around with akimbo shotguns and stuff like that.

Yes... people carrying the 1887 should be slowed down to a crawl, that would lower the amount of nubs using it. The ranger isn't as bad. This is a game BASED on realism, if you want a realistic game play Arma, this is CoD, not real life :p.

              Well, here's this:
On movement speed (player speed is determined by his his primary slot whether he starts with it or picks it up):
SMGs, Pistols and Sniper Rifles have a Speed of 100%
Assault Rifles and Shotguns have a Speed of 95%
Machineguns have a Speed of 87.5%
Riot Shield and Launchers have a Speed of 80%

So if you pick up a LMG as your secondary, you will still move at 100% ?

I'm pretty sure - I'm looking at this from my experience in CoD4 and assuming it's similar.

If you're a scope and pick up an AK47, you won't have the full mobility with the 47 out, but if you take out your deagle then you get your full speed back. Again, this could just be a habit the community developed, but I'm pretty sure there's a reason for players using their secondary when jumping/running instead of having a large primary equipped.

Doesn't work like that in MW2, your speed is completely determined on what your Primary Weapon is, even if you pick up said weapon.

It is determined by the "mobility" of the weapon stat in which you select it.
Anything else picked up or equipped DOESN'T effect your speed.

Hm, Ok. Maybe it was the same in CoD4 - I'm just speaking from my experience where everybody ran and jumped with the deagle equipped, and I figured that it modified your speed.

                            Good to know.

I always thought it was because it obstructed less of the screen, along with looking damn cool and the deage being crazy good in cod4.

So it's pretty much the same in CoD4 and MW2.
                                This is for CoD4:
Carrying an SMG, Pistol, or Shotgun in your Primary Weapon Slot (that's the gun you're holding when you spawn) gives the player a "base" run speed of "1".
A Sniper Rifle or Assault Rifle in your Primary Weapon Slot has a base run speed of "0.95".
A Light Machinegun in your Primary Weapon Slot has a base run speed of "0.875".

This isn't CounterStrike, the gun in your hands does not decide your speed.
If you have an LMG and SMG, you run at LMG speed.
If you have an SMG and LMG, you run at SMG speed.
