      Re: BF2142. How arth thee?

Battlefield 2142 has many more interesting features that BF2 didn't have. Things like:

      - No prone spamming
      - Good accuracy system
      - Grenades aren't nukes
      - APMs (claymores) can be passed by crouching or crawling past.
      - More weapons and customization
      - Great vehicles (Handling, damage, balancing)

Vehicles is what really got me with this game. I wish there were planes but it's still great! The tanks are great because you really need to be careful and watch you flanks. This game has so much going but it's just not played right. Just like BF2.

Imagine 32 vs 32 with coordinated support via mics in a military fashion.

i was always just the opposite. last time i played bf2, i had a 150 ping on some UK server & it was better play than anything i see close to me w/ < 50 ping.

i think the bf2142 hit reg is way better than bf2's. BF2 seems better in the latest patch but it's still lacking when you compare it to 2142. I am a very effective sniper in Bf2142. Can hit jumping targets, running targets and guys at really long distances.

When i try to snipe in Bf2 i fail miserably. Maybe it's the bullet drop or something but i aim right at the head and i get nothing. I even have problems hitting guys at close range. Hit reg or my aim?

Walkers aren't nearly as exciting as they could be but all in all vehicles are great yes. Bit lacking in the air department but it's fairly well balanced at least.

Also, one thing I don't like is how firefights often are decided by who crouches and scopes first (because of great accuracy) which can be a bit boring, unlike BF2 where you're extremely inaccurate no matter what you do and firefights are a bit more dynamic. :P

that always did make for some intersting combat, especially 1 v 1. Not to mention the fact that in bf2 you could just about jump 8 feet in the air.

Rumormill states, that with the next 2142 patch they're including Northern Strike in it for free.

I thought it was confirmed that NS was included for free?

It's actually gotten worse for me now that they 'fixed' the hitboxes. I was playing Tampa, there was an AT guy jumping at me (bunnyhopping DAOers are now the flavour of the month in BF2 vehicle maps) and decided to knife me instead of shooting. I went through all 30 of my AK rounds and a few pistol rounds of him just jumping straight at me; no proning, diving, strafing, or rolling, just straight up bunnyhopping and I couldn't get enough bullets to reg on him. That was, I believe, the last I played BF2, because it's more of a rule than an exception and I just can't stand getting instantly killed by others while needing the enemy to be standing perfectly still for my shots to reg. If an opponent is bunnyhopping, I may as well just not even try to shoot him because I'll just waste bullets. Bunnyhopping itself, however, doesn't annoy me in the slightest aside from it looking a bit stupid, but the hitreg in BF2 is the sole reason I doubt I'll ever play that game again.

BF2142 is a bit better, I'll concede, but for me it's not really a great deal better. Some days it gets to the point where I actually have to use the Voss just because I need 40 bullets to reg enough hits to get a kill. Really makes online gaming not much fun. Add to that the lack of map variety on servers in favour of maps where spamming nades and PKs are preferable (to be fair, given the hitreg in general and I can see why people are content to spam explosives) and it's given me no reason to reinstall. Hopefully BC2 will bring something fresh to play.

I've actually heard from some competitive players than optimal ping is around 100, otherwise if you're a low pinger facing a high pinger you'll get a lot of dust on them and they'll kill you instantly, but I don't have evidence to back that up.

sometimes everything is perfect on your end but your opponent's ping messes hitreg up.

Exactly, BF2142 is the perfect balance of modern and futuristic. It isn't to far fetched and is the best games i have ever, i love it. There was one point where I knew all the guns, weapons, vehicles , etc...

Haha, well guys I think I will get it.

@ -Shifty-: I have always thought if DICE put some proper effort into the VOIP system instead of the very quiet, bad quality sort of hit and miss VOIP we have had so far. Team play and co-operation between members would massively increase the Battlefield experience.

Sure we have TS/Vent which is ok if your in a clan. But when you just find a server on your own, your team mates inevitably aren't going to be on it.

Bump: So it's arrived. Been playing it a fair bit and despite the phenomenal list of bugs and general bugginess in this game (that I was going to list but cba as it's so long) and the average score (due to kills being 1 point) 2 or something absurd.

It was somewhat fun, apart from it REALLY needs a PB update and that the best way to get points is just to ignore the enemy and just follow the nade spammers on your team around with an ammo crate seems... Yeah, ok EA.

Also the nade spam is way worse than my experience of it in BF2 due to the terrible bottlenecks in the map designs. (Gibraltar being shocking for this)

Anyway, I'll try to grind through the ranks to get something in my kits that can actually compete with everyone else lol ATM I just have a Support kit unlocked half way.
