    Aiming, BF2 and You!

Over the last 4-5 years, Ive developed and learned of a number of different techniques on how to improve my aim. Some of those techniques have also been mentioned at TBF2 during various times.

    * Running around a tree while keeping your aim stead on it
    * Flicking around at various degrees (usually 180) and trying to get on the target on the first flick
    * Flicking on and off the target, trying to get as close to it on the first motion
    * www.missionred.com minigames

And there are a couple of others, which have been very helpful.

However, recently I got dragged into Quake Live, and after just a couple of intense rounds, I noticed that my aim in BF2 became spectacular. My close quarters combat skills improved tremendously. I wasnt a terribad player either, but 1.5 patch got me a little off guard and I havent been playing for over a year. Now, combined with intense Quake Live rounds, I notice that the pure mechanical aiming part of the game in BF2 is just piss-easy. So, anyone who feels like they have to work on that, should give QL a go. Youll get owned in that game, literally, but take it as a training exercise for BF2 and you wont regret it.

On the topic of aiming and 1.5, anyone find sniping a lot harder now? everything else seems pretty much the same apart from the odd kill here and there that I wouldn't have usually expected to get but sniping....I think i have got about 5 kills since the patch came out with the sniper!

Should one keep the cross-hair still and wait for a target to walk into it? or track it and fire.

Sniping is just fine for me in <100ms ping servers, I either snapshoot, dragshoot or use the conventional methods and I get good hits. Are you playing on wireless, perhaps?

A few years of comp CS will do the same thing. It makes every other game seem easy.

Can't deny that, once you get "good" (well, good enough to say you don't get owned whenever you join a server) at some of the real CQC based FPS' BF2 seems a lot easier. I played CS:S, CS 1.6, CoD4 and Unreal 2k4, and I believe my stints in those games have made me an improved player.

BF2 seems unbelievably slow after playing some of the more CQC FPS' that require much quicker and better reactions to survive.

Also out to anyone who has a cod4 server, I recommend warming up for anygame by playing cod4 with a few friends in a server that has been sped up (say x2 or x4), when you go back to playing normal time games everything seems immensely slow!

expect that in CS you really don't have to lead any of your shots at all, its basically point and shoot vs this game when you shoot directly in front of you at lets say someone 30 feet away you miss completely.

If you want to talk intense meet me in UT3, it makes quake looks like a tremble. To be honest it wasn't really my moving aim or speed it was more like these bf2 guns and animations just wanst fast enough for me... when ever I am on a fast action sequence in bf2 these crap always happens to me, : shooting blanks, double reload, reload animation but no reload, prone and crouch glitch, shooting missiles through tanks dead on, scope glitch, cant pick up someones kit bag and so many more... so yeh over all i think im just a little too fast for it!

My brother just got hosed in a 1 vs 1 by a 7 year CS1.6 veteran. CS puts a heavy strain on the hand-eye coordination so I definitely see that game taking immense skill to be good at. However, the rounds and the game itsself is not intense enough to really "train" ones aim.

Quake is faster, smoother, more accurate than UT3. Im pretty new to those kind of arena games, and even I can tell a difference. Its not about "meeting you there" as if it was a competition.

Well all you have to do is tell yourself to aim in front of the target then... don't need much practice with that.

And I don't even lead shots in BF2 and everything seems to work fine...

I tested the aiming in this game with my brother. He stood still while i aimed right at him,and the bullet missed. If you hit people in this game it is luck.Sometimes i hit someone with 1 burst and they die, other times i unload a whole clip on them and they dont die.The game is just broken, plain and simple.Good aim doesnt even come into play in this game. Its all luck.

I wouldn't say it's all luck, you have to put your shot there in the first place to get the kill. However there are times where you think, damn, he died quickly (lucky headshot) and there are times where you think HOW MANY BULLETS CAN HE EAT??? But it often evens itself out.

But in this game just having good aiming won't get you far enough, you need to have good positioning, good enemy awareness, you need to know when you are seen and when you are in the right to set up shop and lay down some fire. "Pro skills" can save you in some fps', but if you don't do what I just said well, all that skill results to nothing.

I agree with you. I was strafing side to side near a way shooting at it and I don't know if the marks and bullet holes left on the wall is accurate and portrays the actual bullets but anywho as I as strafing left to right unloading my clip. I just can't help but to wonder does recoil of a M16 really that bad that 2 or 3 times there were bullet holes being sparked on top of my head when I am 2ft or so infront of it? If that is the case then I am sure they can already made guided bullets right now.

                              Well said that man!

Been playing this for years but stopped after MY old PC could not handle PR any more GFX-card probably on the way out after five years. Anyway came back in for the new patch.

The whole appeal in PR was that with those guns you were dangerous, you shot someone they went down, The hit box they could do little but as one hit actually registered hard like a bullet would it felt so much real and better.

I was playing last night on a inf map only and left due to being sick to death of unloading a clip into a enemy player, sometimes a few feet away from behind for them to turn round with a more powerful gun and kill me after first doing the

“ I’m being shot twenty times I better turn round and shoot back”

What don’t the developers get, make bullets count and make a game of it, not make bullets soft it adds to the game – no it does not…………love the guys trying to say you need great skill, awareness, positioning that means jack when the player is bulletproof and you have out thought them. Guy had 50 kills on the server and he was simply running round blasting out in the open and getting a medic to be a god and give him life back. He’d last two minutes in a good game, and be killed and have to learn to actually think.

Ok its BF2, it’s a game and anyone can look good on it. I appreciated the scores in PR but not in this, being that no. 1 player means very little when you realise how poor it is at times and you need to play in a BF2 style that is so far removed from the great fps.

I was getting “owned” as the plebs say as I was still playing with the mindset of PR, moving from cover to cover, taking careful aim and not shooting like it was going out of fashion. Once I applied the Kiddie factor as I call it I was back in the top few.

Run about like a headless chicken, Shoot the endless ammo, spray the place while jumping….

Ok lads what are you playing that is a proper fps were hits count and guns kill? Sick of this six hits to the face and nothing bull. Just took BF2 and H off the machine that way I'll not be arsed installing to play such a poorly done game that looks so good.
