Is there really no "no-perk" server option in CoD4 (or demo recording in WaW)? How hard could it be? Even DICE listened and gave us IO and prone deviation.

Sure there can be the default pub mode, and sure there can be promod, but can't there be something in between for the two to share? That's what I'm getting at, that there is room for the game's actual development team to implement a mode that encompasses both competitive as well as pub features, because as it stands currently they completely neglect the competitive players.

What you just described sounds like the perfect opportunity for a mod creator.. IW aren't going to piss and fart around trying to define a middle ground for enthusiast and casual gamers. I myself can't think of a mode that would cater to both parties.. It would just be a practicing arena for pro players to slaughter your average video gamer.

HC with friendly fire on seems to be the closest thing to that.

In short, you can't have the best of both worlds.

It appears as though you don't have a solid understanding of what competitive play is even like - as it is the farthest thing from hardcore. This isn't a "give me more" argument - and even if it was, IW is focusing on giving the community all the customization they desire. Rather, it's a push for a mode, implemented with the game's release, that provides casual players with a chance to see what competitive play is like, and for competitive players to spend more time in the public sector.

To be precise, what I and many other competitive players are seeking is simply an adjusted game mode - the forced (not server-side tweaked) removal of perks and certain gameplay elements. I hardly see it as a daunting task for devs, and I'm asking that it be implemented with the game because if it is left to mod creators then - as I said in my previous post - it just continues to segregate the community.

Overall, and this is nothing personal, but I just think you're missing my point and my ultimate intention, as I'm asking for an entirely new game or anything along those lines. All I'm pushing for is a new mode that bridges the gap between competitive players and casual players, which I can see as being very beneficial for the community. Yes, it will be harder for the average pubber, and yes many will choose to not play it. However, some will play it, and getting the two communities to interact can be beneficial in many ways. If it is left to server tweaks and mods then the situation remains unchanged - the mode will exist with promod, but it won't solve the issue at hand.

The counter-argument I continue to hear is "mods will implement it, etc." I understand that mods will be created, and I am not at all concerned about its existence - I simply have the understanding that more people will give it a chance, especially the average casual player, if it is implemented with the boxed game.

My HC statement wasn't in regards to competitive game-play, rather a middle ground for pro and "scrub"..

Imo what we have now is fine and I think you are asking for too much, don't forget IW's main priority is the single player. We don't need another mode for Pros and Casuals to play. If "pros" want to play with casuals then come play the standard setting and stop b*tching so much.

No matter what they implement you will always have lower skilled players finding a way to exploit the game for easy kills. As long as there is nades there will be spam, corners = campers, machine guns = sprayers, space bar = bunny hoppers, Scroll wheel = binders etc etc.. You will never be happy until we are all in a giant igloo holding a knife.

If you think the game sells because of SP then you are sorely mistaken.

It's a lost argument though, nothing against you or your opinion but you fail to see exactly what argument I am putting forth.

The majority of sales are people buying it for single player... None of my friends and hardly anyone I have ever met play online games yet own an xbox or playstation with the call of duty series..

No there's no such thing as a "no-perk" mode strangely enough. It would be a really easy thing to implement. IW couldn't care less, but they should, considering all of the previous PC CoD games have been at least somewhat competitively successful and a simple thing like this easily could boost sales in the hardcore community.

That's entirely besides the point. When did Defekt ever complain about one of those things?

Point is that while perks are a cool thing for the casual gamer it really wouldn't be hard to think one step further and also cater to those that want more of a old school type of gameplay.

Merely pointing out that even if IW did create some magical mode where pro and casual alike could play, the pro players would still complain about the tactics used.. And don't say they wouldn't because we all know they would.

This reminds me of ANOTHER game mode CoD4 has which is actually called Old School, where each player has to pick weapons up like in unreal tournament, would this not be a good platform for both to play together?.. How many modes do you need before you're happy? you will NEVER reach an equilibrium when it comes to casual and pro gamers playing together.

Don't get me wrong I'm not trying to p*ss anyone off but I just don't understand what more you want.. Can you at least give us an example of this "balanced" mode you have in mind?

Maybe they would just be better off giving server admins the right to lock certain perks and weapons?

For me personally I think a whole lot of this would be cleared up if only they made the maps a bit bigger.

You cant please anyone when making a game. People have something specific in their own minds. In pub servers everything is a noob weapon or a noob server or a noob setting on a server.

Ive also mentioned that because Treyarch gave many customizations for health and killstreaks. Its a good idea. perks=0 and killstreaks=0 or realoldschool=1

I think that would solve a lot of other issues, but not the pro problems.

I am hopeful that if IW does not do this, which it looks like they are not, a modder will come out with something that will work. I know a few quit, but they are out there.

Still, I'd prefer bigger maps. But BF BC2 will quench that thirst

CS, Quake, UT, even the old CoD games? List goes on...

Even TF2 does a better job than CoD catering to competitive players... critical hits are random but they're really easy to turn off with just a simple server setting, as well as variable weapon damage, which is all you need really.

Well like I said, CoD4 has a similar game mode to UT (old school)..

Just an FYI, they tried out a no-perks/no-kill streaks mode last year (on X360), but the implementation kind of fizzled out.

They should have tried it on PC. I dont think that would fly with people that never played the game before CoD4.
