Some of those popups inflict a disadvantage to the person upon whom they are inflicted.
Having huge letters obstruct my view is not my idea of a reward!

Exactly, that's just one of my many points. I'm not about limiting the player, I'm about giving the player the [easy/user friendly] option to either play with those features or not.

If a server wants to turn off perks, it should be easy and clearly displayed (possibly a sort-by-perk feature) - if a user doesn't want a bunch of text on his screen he shouldn't have to sacrifice regular gameplay for hardcore, etc.

And sorry for the huge original post though lol, I just like to get away from the small rants that you see scattered across these forums now.

Actually, they can do that even now. Ive played in a number of servers, where things like the Glauncher attachment, claymores and 3x nades were disabled.

My position is simple. I would rather rely on competitive mods to deliver that kind of gameplay. Multitude of perks is not an issue. There are no such things as "easy" perks. What is important is the balance of perks.

games dead, MW2 has been dead since it was announced.

You know they are going to reduce the recoil to make console players able to shoot, introduce new perks for the casual players, and now apparently introduce deathstreaks because they realized too many people die too fast in that game.

Competition will just be the same exact thing but with new maps. Graphics are stripped away like before, perks removed, killstreaks removed, and the half the guns removed.

Thanks IW, you might have made a game to be better than CSS at competition if you tried. Just had to focus on the pubbing.

Well key, I'm not sure that competition gaming is the first thing on most devs mind. They only try for those who can make them the most money, i.e. the younger, dumber generation who want to feel like rambo if his M60 fired M67's.

You're right, but I feel that the game will be active for competition in the first month or two, and that will be the deciding factor to see if the game has a chance to survive competitively.

It's true that it's basically the same game, but a lot of what ruined CoD4 competition in at least North America was the ridiculous amount of mods that the community was subjected to along with the death of CAL. With the mods sorted out and other leagues emerging, the game will have at least a good season or two, and only time will tell if the players who come back to give it a shot will stay or not.

Stop complaining soo damn much.. You're getting WAYYY too caught up in it Defekt.

If you don't like the look of what's to come then leave your money in your pocket and move along.. Yeah it sucks they are flooding it with bs perks but it should still be good fun. And as Redfield said, user made mods usually come out to keep at peace the "pro" gamers.

Not to mention BF BC2 :awes

But my point is if this game doesn't succeed Call of Duty competition is dead. The game is becoming too easy and too full of gimmicks, and I have a right to voice my opinion against that. I shouldn't just have to go to the next game, because the series should maintain its strengths.

                    Don`t agree.
Where you see cheap tactics and noob friendly mechanics, I see fun, hectic gameplay and obstacles to overcome/tactics to counter.

Imo, everything "pro" and "hardcore" sucks the fun out of everything it touches, unless the game is made like it from the start.

This game wont fail because a few hardcore gamers boycott it.. The series will maintain what sells not what a minority thinks are the better attributes to the game.

Like I said, I don't particularly like the onslaught of perks and kill streak bonuses either but the game is targeted mostly at the console community which consists of weekend gamers and kids not to mention the even bigger majority who only buy it for the single player.

Besides I thought all the competitive playing was done on ProMOD?.. I'm sure someone will have something similar within a few weeks/months once this game comes out.

I'm not saying you don't have a right to voice your opinion, that's what forums are for but you seem to be constantly complaining about a game that hasn't even been released yet, either way after seeing what battlefield has done with BC2 I wouldn't be at all surprised if it took a big chunk out of CoD's competitive community.

What is stopping you from adapting to the players who don't adapt and focus on their own special class?

I do hate the unlock system though. At the very least we should be able to choose what perks/weapons to unlock with unlock points, not have them preset like CoD4.

Key word. Which group buys the most games? Console players or competitive PC players? It's just the way the series is heading.

The problem isn't that they are catering more to the casual community, it's more a problem of completely ignoring the competitive community and its needs. It shouldn't really be that hard to include a "no-perk" mode and simple competition features.

I just want something other than what other wants, that's hardly complaining. Like Ique said, I don't want the game to cater to me, but at the same time I don't want it completely to ignore gamers like myself who do make up a percentage of CoD players.

Unfortunately the competitive and/or more hardcore gamers make up a very small percent. CoD are catering to people who like the crazy perks, attachments, kill streak rewards and mayhem (aka weekend gamers), who make up the majority of their targeted market. It's just how sh*t works and the more they do it the more they sell..

I'm surprised you didn't address my ProMOD comment, isn't it true? Doesn't the competitive side of CoD revolve around a user made mod anyway?

I do understand your point but at the end of the day IW will make more money doing what they are doing.

Promod will be released yes, and that is what is used for competition. However, many competitive players also feel that the two communities should not be segregated (a mature ideology in my opinion). Currently there are the competitive elitists and the pubbers, but there should be a mode that the two can share.

Sure there can be the default pub mode, and sure there can be promod, but can't there be something in between for the two to share? That's what I'm getting at, that there is room for the game's actual development team to implement a mode that encompasses both competitive as well as pub features, because as it stands currently they completely neglect the competitive players.
