When we get Blu-Ray do you all think we'll start having to pay $60 for a game? I hope not.

CoD:MW2 is $60 for PC.
I don't see real PC devs (Valve, Blizzard) going up to $60 any time soon, though.

I think the future will be in content platforms. (See: XBLA, Steam)

Of course that assumes everyone has an amazing connection...

Yeah I would imagine were all pretty much agreed eventually it will be download PSN/XBLA/Steam etc. but that also is a while off before globally were are all ready for that, speed wise and the networks themselves being able to handle all the extra data.

Itll be a while before bluray is used for PC games, games arent big enough yet to be using it. Sure you get the odd game that is 2 DVD's but thats rare. By the time the need catches on downloading may end up burying it, Sony are not out of the hole yet, they could yet again fail.

that's CoD though, its always overpriced

but yes, I think the main issue is cost and the components

when you can just add another DVD or download digitally gamers aren't going to fork out extra for Blu Ray, even with a lot of laptops coming with Blu Ray drives nowadays a lot of the burners are rubbish

it will take a bit of time but we could possible see it eventually, people will ofc buy Blu Ray for their HD films (or dl them hrhrhr - when the net is up to scratch) but I don't think there is a need for them with games

Blu Ray may have won the format war, which is probably all Sony cared about in the early days of the PS3 etc, but people aren't going to magically adopt it overnight

my house has 6 DVD players, not including the 3 PCs, 2 laptops and a PS3, if I buy a Blu Ray I can only play it on my PS3 and not on my other players such as the one in my room

shall indeed be a while before Blu Ray is the norm

Where did you get that price from? How dare they charge 60 dollars for a pc game.

EDIT: You are correct sir, I just checked Amazon online and it is $60. What are they thinking. I might as well get it for the Xbox360 now instead of the pc if I get it at all now. I bet it won't take long for other game developers to follow suit, EA comes to mind. Once they see people are willing to pay that much for a pc game and it sells well, well that is all it will take.

Just like PS3 went blu-ray and more and more moives are coming out on blu-ray, then is this the next logical step up for pc games, to go blu-ray?

Looking at the past two years, I can only recall two games that I bought on DVD, the rest was downloaded from various online retailers.
And the only reason I bought those two on DVD was that the online version for some obscure reason was more expensive.

Even if you buy a game the old-fashioned way, you will often have to download pathches that are several GB in size.

My prediction is that increasing bandwith will make hardcopies obsolete before BluRay becomes standard in PCs.

Which is EXACTLY why developers love it. Impulse buying is I'm sure, much more rampant with DLC/DL games than with having to go to the store and buy a game.

I dont think Blu Ray will hit the PC gaming industry yet. I mean, eventually, but I can see downloading being the main way. Some mentioned cost of Blu Ray and that will hold it at bay for a while. Not to mention the millions of machines that should have been scrapped long ago but people still use. They can't do SATA, let alone blu ray.

It will be quite a while and by then maybe another technology will come in.

One problem with digital downloads is that people have bandwidth limits, like me with crapcast. When games get bigger and all.

Here in Denmark bandwith caps are almost unheard of as long as you use some form of wired internet. There may be a cap for "unreasonable" usage, but otherwise only 3G/EDGE/GPRS connections come with a CAP.

So the question is if unlimited bandwith isnt likely to be mainstream before Blu-ray drives?

And I could also imagine the possbility of people with poor connections downloading at an Internet Cafe, or maybe a Game store.
I am currently carrying around a 16 GB usb stick in my keychain, but the way prices are changing 64 GB will drop to the same price in a year or two. And then you can have a blu-ray and a couple of DVDs in you pocket.

And so you will go to the store and buy the cheap 2 DVD game. You have a Blu Ray player in your PC?

It took a long time for DVDs to take over gaming discs vs multiple CDs. Until Blu Ray is the "norm", I just dont think its going to happen.

I finally got a DVD player in my system just so I could play BF2142 because it was only available DVD. Until then, it was downloads and CDs.

I still think by the time Blu Ray gets to that point, you will have better internet or another technology will be there. Both are moving very fast right now.
