Is the next logical step for games on PC, blu-ray?

Just like PS3 went blu-ray and more and more moives are coming out on blu-ray, then is this the next logical step up for pc games, to go blu-ray?

I actually think flash memory. Cheaper, doesn't require a Blu-Ray drive, can be used in USB 1.0-3.0 and lasts a lot longer than optical disks are are perhaps less prone to errors.

Blu-Ray, no, not very likely. It's basically a DVD with more storage, which is nice but not needed as two DVD discs is cheaper any way.

Flash memory or something similar might be something to consider, but I think it will take a while before the DVD is dead

Blu Ray will take a while, the costs have to come down a lot and the performance of burners increase

DVDs ain't going anywhere for a while tbh

I think DVD and CD will stay around for awhile longer but Blu-Ray, Flash memory, and digital downloads are going to advance more and soon things will get so large that they will need 3-4 dvds (same happened for CD's) so it is inevitable.

I haven't played any games that take up more than one or two DVDs, so the need to switch isn't really needed quite yet.

Blu Ray will probably get there eventually, possibly the last optical disc before digital download etc. move in. But it's a good few years off yet I would imagine.

FlashROM? Very unlikely. They are too expensive for software distribution. Unless we're talking about $1000 productive software suite.

Blu-ray is indeed the next step. However, I don't see massive adoption of blu-ray until late 2010. Their price is still too high for mass adoption. I still remember how expensive DVDs were when they first came up. It took five years for people to start considering buying DVDs instead of CD-RW. Same will happen to blu-ray, but, due to economic forecast, only somewhat slower. We will all be buying games on blu-ray some day, or burning licensed copy to blu-ray disc.

LMAO MANZI, nice avatar an sig man, I dig it. Any ho, here's my thoughts on this. Sony is notorious for trying to corner the market and they always seem to fail. Many of you may not remember something called beta tapes. Yeah, that was Sony's answer to the VHS. The beta was smaller than VHS, it didn't sell very well. Later on they tried to do the same with a digital recording tape, like a cassette tape, but it delivered a higher quality digital recording. I forget the name of that tape. Anyway, it didn't sell too well either because the CD buried it. Now Blue Ray. I have to agree with previous posts, the CD and DVD will out last it. Sony tries to make new stuff all the time to corner the market, but they make it so that you have to buy their equipment and they charge too much for it. I fear they will never learn.

Yea but it all of those instances you mentioned Sony lost the format battle. This time they actually won the format battle vs the HD-DVD by Toshiba.

this would be great and logical:thumbsup:,but remember its not the best tech that we get!, but the milking of it on the way .eg. the electric cars where made in the 50s.

so from a money making point of view blue ray but from a tech point of view a 16GB stick is way cheap atm and better:salute:

edit: a stick has no surface to scratch and no moving parts( a huge plus)

Good of you to bring this up, interesting. I was just thinking of blu-ray for the pc the other day. The cost will definitely have to come down a lot before it becomes implemented more.
