Im just glad to see most here agree that consoles are now or very soon will be a proper gaming platform.

Theres absolutely no reason why microsoft shouldnt be able to make a dedicated gaming machine that would maximize gaming potential beyond PC. In other words a better gaming machine than any PC for a solid 6 years.

Its all about cost and balancing that.

Why they didnt sell every 360 with a harddrive, give it 1 gb of ram and support a mouse (since its supports keyboards) ill never know.

They might not want to sell the 720 for $720 dollars
But eventually they will have to.

I predict only 2 choices next time around..
I'll go out on a limb and say (with no bets) :p

Microsoft makes the 720 kiddie, ($300) and the 720 true gamer ($999)

A thousand dollars might seem like alot for some, but its really not
usless your asking mommy to buy it. Most of us have more than that in PC's and Big screen TV's all for entertainment purposes.

By the way, is BF3 expected to be modern warfare?

I'm still hope that Microsoft goes with some of the suggestions that have gone to them stating that their Windows OS have an option to reboot into a Gaming Mode, this would turn the box into a xbox of sort with only whatever add-on the kernel needs to run. Most people don't need their printspooler or Diskdefrag running in the background when gaming.

I'll pay a thousand or even two for a PC, but there is not a chance I'm paying a 1000 just for a console.

360, is pretty much that gaming machine are you talking about and no way it's worth 1000 bucks, even when it was new.

And there is not a chance any standardized system is going to last for 6 years on top, no way.

Am with you on this bit, i will never be seen spending more than £300 on a console, any console, ever.

Nothing official at all has been said about BF3, not even a confirmation that it's in the pipeline.

However, given that
- BF2 was modern,
- BC1 & 2 are modern,
- the massive popularity of COD4,
- the expectation of MW2,
- and a clear lesser preference for WWII (it still has a large fan-base, but clearly not as much as modern war), I'd say BF3 is almost certain to be modern as well.
- Since "future" war has already been done with 2142, and it's also a smaller niche, I don't see another one like it for some time.

TL;DR the whole thread, but http://www.gamesindustry.biz/article...-for-next-xbox is also supportive of the Nextbox being released in the near future. I hope Blizzard isn't going to consoles though - they're one of the few [good] PC devs we have left.

In my opinion consoles are weak, lame, over rated and over priced and what's more, console games are over priced too.

If i was to go out to my local game shop tonight and buy the newest game for my PC it would cost no more that £19.99, yet if i were to buy the same game for a console it would cost £44.99, yet the £19.99 game would be able to be ran at super high graphics and not be limited online to 16 or 24 players.

I know the console kiddies are going to disagree with me, but remember this is only my opinion, you are free to think what ever you like about consoles or PC's.

If that's true, then you're getting particularly screwed there in Britain.

Here in North America, it's generally about a $10 difference for the top-level/AAA titles. Most top-level new PC games are about $50, and most new top-level Console games are about $60.

If it's really a £25 difference where you live, that's ridiculous.

Yes, that's the difference between consoles and PC games here in the UK, there really is not much point in my buying a game for a console even if for some strange reason i wanted to, because PC wins hands down everytime, time and time again.

I remember you saying about the prices where you live just yesterday or maybe the day before, and its not that much difference the prices you pay.

Consoles are big business here, but the PC's are nowhere as big as the consoles IMO.

I heard that PC gaming in the states is meant to be massive, and that's maybe why the prices are so close in the US.

Whoever makes the console also makes money from the games. If they didn't, the console itself would be more expensive. Hence why PC games are usually still around $50 in the US, and consoles are $60.

But try building a decent gaming rig for $400 (360 launch price I think?). You'd be better off spending $800 and it'll probably outlast a console. Being able to upgrade part-by-part doesn't hurt the deal either.

I think the difference in price between PC games and console games is because developers need to pay loyalties to Microsoft and Sony for console games, where as on the PC they don't.

You just said the console makers also make money off the games. I tried to specify by saying HOW the console makers also make money off the games.
