Effective cooling doesn't reduce the effect of electromigration.

True, but these new 45nm chip are pretty much built to last and do things previous chips

I would much rather have the eVGA card showing, but if I sell my old Core2Quad Xeon rig, I'll probably sell the MSI with it and putting it on the outside slot makes for easier removal.

Benchmark Screenies:

This is with hyperthreading enabled and BEFORE adding the second card. Once I added the second card she would not POST. I initially thought my power supply might not be up to snuff but after adjusting some voltages (mostly down) I was able to get back the 3.8 Ghz OC using 1.25 volts. I started to go for 4.0 Ghz, but it's not worth the additonal voltage and heat. I turned off HT for heat reason as well.

I didn't even know BF2142 supported SLI until I picked up the Deluxe Edition today for Northern Strike, re-installed and saw the SLI bar to the left.

Thanks man. Not as powerful as TRI SLI 295's or TRI SLI 280's, but for the most power stuffed into the smallest space, I'd agree.

I have an open-mesh side panel, so for essentially they can be treated as if they were in open air. The inner card gets about 10C hotter than the outer one, which is understandable.

These i7's run freaking hot. I thought my Quadcore Xeon 3360 was toasty. I'm debating on going back to water cooling on this rig.

what kind of temps you getting with that cpu and that voltage?

oh i was also going to ask what on earth you use 12GB of RAM for, most people seem to have 4GB in thier rigs. i thought i had alot, 6GB

Well I have fan control enabled so idle temps are around 50C and load temps using LinX (Makes Prime95 look like childs play) are 80-78-76-76.

Prime95 loads about 8C lower than above. Pretty standard temps for an OC'd i7.

I have to run between 6-10 VMWare sessions on this box when I'm working from home, and VMWare can eat up memory pretty quick.

50C idle is pushing high temps. What CPU cooler you using the stock fan? That would make sense then at 50C idle. If so I'd suggest a better cooler. I would assuem your Vreg is in the higher 70 to 80's as well since you are already that high just your CPU.

I'm using the Thermalright HR01+, which is very close to the TRUE (Thermal Right Ultra Extreme) and a high-speed Rexus 120mm PWM fan. It doesn't get much better than that unless you go H20.

Linx is a GUI for Linpack, but has some added optimizations (don't aske me what they are).

Voltage regulators have active cooling on them, but I haven't put a thermocouple on them to test temperatures. The stock heat pipe NB/VRegulator cooling setup can be touched without burning your finger.

This HS uses the X-bracket, so I may have to stick a washer underneath to get more pressure. Also the Shin Etsu needs time to break in. The only other thing is that it could be sucking hot air off the video cards.

What temps are you getting with those 260s? Are they about the same or does one run hotter than the other due to the placement?

12 gigs :shock: and I thought 6 was overkill!
