I got it: BF:Neanderthal. Your weapons are slingshots and sticks and instead of vehicles you ride on dinosaurs!

Well, imagine an APM that you can't crouch or prone to bypass. Basically a claymore that's all but a guaranteed kill and cannot kill friendlies. It used to be FF on all the time for mines and claymores, but people would complain that teammates would thoughtlessly run into them and punish for the TK, so DICE decided to just allow the option to turn FF-off so friendlies couldn't set them off. This was acceptable (albeit still stupid) when you could destroy claymores with hand grenades, but when they removed that feature as well, all of a sudden you have a sniper that can barricade an area off with explosives that, aside from an airlift, you cannot bypass. They rectified this in BF2142 by allowing you to crouch/prone past APMs so at least if you know they're there or you suspect they are, you can take measures to avoid them, but in BF2 if someone drops a claymore in a chokepoint with no alternate route available, you have no choice but to set it off or wait for someone to kill the sniper and let 60 seconds pass for it to disappear.

Since Iron Gator takes place mostly inside the aircraft carrier, there are obviously a TON of small hallways and chokepoints which are just perfect for clayspam, and I've never been able to rez anyone who died from a claymore inside the carrier so you can't even use the 'bring a medic' technique. Claymores are one of those 'WTF was DICE thinking?!?!' moments. :hmm:

the dumbest thing they did in my opinion would be taking away the ability for you to set off a claymore with a nade or other explosive.

that or just shoot the damn things with a gun to make them explode like in call of duty. seeing that most apm deaths occur from the ignorance of thier existence im really not sure why they dont give you the ability to simply shoot them and blow them up.

Yeah, that would work, too. They should either let you destroy them or allow you to bypass them, but as of right now you cannot do either. The engineers can use the wrench to remove them, but they have to be close to them to do that, which means they would already have to be in a position to be able to avoid it anyway, which makes it moot. Personally, I'm fine with just being able to crouch past them like in BF2142, but we can't even do that in BF2. :hmm:

according to the poll we did here though: http://www.totalgamingnetwork.com/ma...d.php?t=139846

it does seem like most people want the modern combat setting again.
CoD: World at War went away from the modern day settings and look what happened.

i would like a near future game, just a few years in the future with all the future weapons, in which you can enter buildings, baseraping is impossible(out of bounds for one team for example),loads of weapons, loads of kits, loads of tactics, and a lot of different difficulty weapons, for example, voss baur and then a gun even more difficulter than the baur, adding more tacts and skill levels)

There's a sourcemod called Age of Chivalry that does roughly the same thing.

Trust me, an FPS isn't a good medium for melee combat. Most fights in AoC look and feel hilariously pathetic, despite nevertheless how nicely they executed the concept.

melee fighting games are better in 3rd person. have any of you played a UT-engine based game called Rune? that game was crazy fun in multiplayer.

AoC is pretty cool. i played it a few times, a bit clunky in movement and somewhat too realistic when it comes to walking speed.

From the same people who made the Star Wars Battlefront games, which basically was a Star Wars themed Battlefield with hero characters and a campaign. TBH I don't have high hopes for it.

One thing I fail to understand is why devs haven't yet implemented the concept of actually seeing your own limbs instead of a paste-over of them?

Try this: load up BF, go straight into a wall. Notice how your hands still hold the rifle, as if your gun and your limbs were completely flat.

Try working a depth perception into melee range with that sort of thing.

Methinks it would help if you could see your real virtual limbs. With the shadowing and all. I believe it would give a much better intuitive notion of when and where to strike.

It's a lot easier to stick separate first person models in front of the camera than to do it Mirror's Edge style, which I hope DICE will consider implementing to some extent in BF3. And you can't even see your own shadow in current BF games. That always bothered me.
