With only 24 players it's a gang war not battlefield.

Beside these design decisions there are technical limitations. Microsoft and Sony have a very strict bandwidth limit on consoles and we are networking a lot more then 24 players:
- 24 players are networked
- Almost as many physics driven vehicles with movable and destroyable parts
- All destruction, if a wall is being destroyed on one client we need to update it on all the others, otherwise we could end up with players hiding behind non-existent walls.

If we did remove all destruction and all our vehicles we could have more players. But no other game gives you the wide gaming experience we have!

there's your answer for why 1943 is 24 players only and perhaps why Bad Company 2 will be limited to 24 as well.

We don't know for sure yet though. I wouldn't say it's impossible to get more than 24 players. Not for BFBC2 at least.

Does the "up to 24 players" only apply to consoles? And does "match-made servers" mean that you can't choose your own server? I don't know about this one. Looks like dice is becoming more and more console centric. I have a feeling that it's going to be like cod4 and feel like the controls were ported over.

From what I've heard, the 24 player limit is universal, sadly.

It does look like this game has been consolified! This does not bode well.

However it would be nice if the console dummies could match against the PC guys with their meeces. Can you imagine the slaughter :lol:

Apparently Battlefield 1943 is going to have a variety of things unusual to the series, including a much lower player cap (as already discussed), regenerating health (like Call of Duty presumably), unlimited ammo, just a few maps, and some other things which you tend to see more often in console multiplayer games.

So while I'm sure Battlefield 1943 will be a fun diversion, I do think it'll be just that: a diversion. Anyone hoping for this to be anything like a proper sequel to Battlefield 2142 should probably get that out their heads.

I personally am feeling a little neglected by DICE, considering it's us hardcore Battlefield players who made the franchise so successful and now we've got like four Battlefield games within a year that're all completely different. I really hope a full-blown Battlefield 3 does come in 2009, but DICE is so busy this year it's far more likely to be at least 2010. :/

My first battlefield game was BF2, so a battlefield in a pacific setting will be totaly new for me, if this is true it's great news!! :yay:
