    viewmodel_fov 70 petition

Copied straight from the ESG forums, sorry if anything looks messy.

If you've ever watched sourceTV, you know what I'm talking about, just keep reading:

Basically I and a few others have been very busy the latest days trying to advertise our idea about making the viewmodel_fov a legal command to use on regular servers (as it is now, you can only use it on servers with sv_cheats set to 0). I, and many others, feel that when this setting is set to 70 instead of the default 54, it just makes the game look better. It does not give you an advantage, extremely high values will cause your weapon to disappear but you can already do that with other legal console commands. It is purely for looks and does not change the way weapons behave or anything else.

    viewmodel_fov 54 (default)

    viewmodel_fov 70 (sourceTV setting)

As you can see, you only see more of the player model, no unfair advantages. Read the steam forums thread, look at the comparison pictures and post, and we might actually make Valve change this in the game. Even if you personally isn't going to play with this, what harm does it do? Nothing, you'll just make many TF2 players extra happy.

Either just post "Signed!" or make a little post about why you would like this added to the game.

Feel free to join the steam group as well to show your support!

I personally believe that "viewmodel_fov 70" should be allowed in online gaming, this command makes the weapons if Team Fortress 2 look like they do in the Source TV. If you agree that this command is not a cheat and that it should be allowed to be used in online gaming without cheats enabled please add yourself to this Steam Community Group and show your support. If you are unsure about this being a cheat.

If we get enough members we can send an email to Valve, so please help!

And to finish off the thread, just showing how badass the animations look with viewmodel_fov 70

Have a nice day, and show your support!

A few other comparison pictures, these are all with viewmodel_fov 70 but I'm sure you can see the difference

You see a lot more of your arms and the animation look a lot more clear

Holding the sticky launcher with one hand is badass

Oops, sorry for double post, missed my own previous post :|

Nope. Doesn't change anything that has to do with game balance, you only get to see more of the player model. The rest is your personal opinion

I have a whole bunch of other screenshots to show, I'll upload them when I get home from school! Please show your support!

                Re: viewmodel_fov 70 petition

To clarify, you could technically use this command to make your gun disappear completely or make it a whole deal smaller, but you can already do that with other legal console commands. There is no advantage you can give yourself with this command, that you can't already do with another command, or a custom skin for that matter.

Screenshots coming up in... ugh, 2½ hours, sigh. :p

Oh and btw the steam group has gotten close to 70 members in 3 days, the steam forums thread has over 6,000 views so there is definitely a big support for this idea in the community, but every person that signs helps a lot.

                  Re: viewmodel_fov 70 petition

Hi again guys, here comes a crapload of pictures showing how a few other weapons look and some reload animations (even though the HUD is a little bit in the way) Some of the pictures have too much contrast and I'm sorry for that, I forgot some setting when I used irfanview batch convert. Remember to join the steam group or post in the steam forums thread if you support the idea, even if you're personally not gonna use it.

This is all with default settings, 90 FOV, viewmodel_fov 70. The map used is ctf_aerospace, you cn get it from fpsbanana.

This screenshot was just to show how much more you see of the player models compared to the default setting ^^

You never see this kind of detail with the default settings ^^

                  Sandvich just for lulz

I don't think my system can handle that (ohno)

                    It looks fugly though.

It has close to none effect on performance (unless you talk about the map). :p If you think it looks better or not, a taste thing. I personally really like being able to see more detailed animations and just... well see more of my hands and arms instead of seeing one big weapon in the bottom right corner of my hud.

it gives an ever so small advantage because the the weapon is pushed away from the player and so they can now see what it was covering up on the right.

For example, the sniper screens in your first post. By default the rifle covers up a small section on the right. With the new setting you can now see this section.

It's not a giant advantage, just thought i'd mention it. Plus some of the new things look =/ especially the soldier's spade.

You can actually make your weapon disappear completely with another, already legal, console command. As I posted before, There is no advantage you can give yourself with this command, that you can't already do with another command, or a custom skin for that matter.

Note that I took the screenshot while I was swinging the shovel. You don't walk around with it stretched out like that all the time.
