Copied straight from the ESG forums, sorry if anything looks messy.
If you've ever watched sourceTV, you know what I'm talking about, just keep reading:
Basically I and a few others have been very busy the latest days trying to advertise our idea about making the viewmodel_fov a legal command to use on regular servers (as it is now, you can only use it on servers with sv_cheats set to 0). I, and many others, feel that when this setting is set to 70 instead of the default 54, it just makes the game look better. It does not give you an advantage, extremely high values will cause your weapon to disappear but you can already do that with other legal console commands. It is purely for looks and does not change the way weapons behave or anything else.
viewmodel_fov 54 (default)

viewmodel_fov 70 (sourceTV setting)

As you can see, you only see more of the player model, no unfair advantages. Read the steam forums thread, look at the comparison pictures and post, and we might actually make Valve change this in the game. Even if you personally isn't going to play with this, what harm does it do? Nothing, you'll just make many TF2 players extra happy.
Either just post "Signed!" or make a little post about why you would like this added to the game.
Feel free to join the steam group as well to show your support!
If we get enough members we can send an email to Valve, so please help!
And to finish off the thread, just showing how badass the animations look with viewmodel_fov 70

Have a nice day, and show your support!
