That's contradictory.

You have to look at the motifs of the people who want to rank up via power levels. For you, it might not be fun, but for them it would be (otherwise no one would be in those servers). Maybe they decided that COD5 was too boring and long? An extra +10 levels adds a lot more experience you have to work for. And if you are considering trying to do prestige, well forget about that. They see this as an opportunity to get some more use out of the game, or finish off slaving to level 65. Since after all, they probably do have a life (contradictory of what you said). If you spend 20x more time ranking up prestige in vanilla servers, wouldn't that make you have no life?
People are probably taking advantage of this, by getting prestige (which would otherwise require no life), and still have a life.

Look at call of duty 4. Everyone is rank 55. There is no prestige. You got level 55 fairly quickly.. and yet, level 55 people still play the game and still have a great time. And was the fast-ranking servers that big of a deal with COD4? NO! Hell, I didn't even hear about this until this game. As I said before, there are a lot more ranks to get (unlike cod4), so naturally people want this experience to go faster.

QFT. If your main source of fun in a game is leveling up, then the game is probably not that fun anyway. I have had more fun in BF2142 as a brig gen than the lower ranks, since I didn't have to worry about unlocks or points or awards. A lot of my time in the lower ranks was spent destroying titan guns for the 20 point Titan Destructor Pin. After I got to the point where most unlocks were unlocked, I had a lot more fun just playing and concentrating on actual gameplay instead of ranks.

IMO adding persistent ranks to games is an easy way out for devs that want their game to last longer.

You misunderstood what I said Keyelite. I meant that those that do get to prestige 10 in a normal way either has no life or has played for a very long time. Sorry if it was unclear. I actually agree with you :p

I could almost understand if you want to do powerservers to get to level 65, if you are a player who just wants to get there and be done with it and hate rank...but

The people who play Powerservers though in Prestige and all that... lame! Prestige is to show how much time you have in the game, and lets all face it, your not in Powerservers to have fun, your in power servers to make your rank look better so when you go in regular servers, you like like a "Veteran".

I think really, this discussion has been analyzed, and taken apart bit by bit down to nothing, I feel discussion of it isn't really needed any longer either. Yes, we are infact keeping civil, but really, it is back and forth. You see people here who say "Its my account, I do what I want" and others who say "Earn your rank the right way, that is lame and basically cheating".

Both are right, but you know there are so many power servers out there because it is attracting the vas majority of players, so sadly, that is life. I know Treyarch said "They're looking into it". I hope they solve it. How come admins can find ways to get passed it but Treyarch can't figure out how they are, and can't figure out what to lock so it can't be done? That right there is more sad than the players who waste hours upon hours in those servers.

The only reason I have done prestige is to get the extra 5 slots cause frankly I Prefer being able to select all weapons like we could in cod2 this system for cod4 and cod:WW I don't like and these extra 5 slots I think will give more choice of weapons since you cannot change to classes you didnt have. I think tbh we should use the cod4 promod design :thumbsup:



On your last point they know fine well how to fix it and they most likely have the fix ready however no patch is coming till around mid January so we have free roam till then tbh.

I think all the prestige ranks look ghey. 4 stars for the win. Also I noticed COD4 had 55 ranks that went up to 5 starts while COD5 has 65 ranks and goes only to 4 stars. Well since COD4 came first then what 10 ranks did COD5 add?

Doubtful, otherwise there would be a massive number of corruptions to everyone who played on these really high-XP powerlevel servers.

Most likely someone played on a powerlevel server, got their stats corrupted randomly, and blamed it on that (as usual).

As others have said, I doubt most people using powerlevel servers are doing so because of their rank icon. Console folks might care about that, but I think it's different for PC. I think most PC people are using it to unlock the extra create-a-class slots so that they can forget about ranking up, and just play the game with a good variety of custom classes.

I have a feeling that ever since Treyarch announced that they're going to be fixing the powerlevel exploit, that a lot of players are or will be rushing to rank up before that happens. Big mistake on Treyarch's part that they allowed this bug in the full version.

I am glad to hear that the point exploit will be fixed in the upcoming patch. I wish this had been patched much sooner. I want to play in a S&D map with respawns but normal point levels and I am now finding it near impossible to find this due to the elevated point servers taking over.

The only way you could make something like this fair would be to either reset everyone's stat's to zero or let everyone have all the unlocks. Both options wouldn't be that great.

A friend put it best eventually everyone will be the same lvl and then it won't be about rank anymore, just about the game.

The thing that always bugged me about BF2 was I never got those last 2 unlocks, MG36 and MP7, because I had some ludicrous 13000 points to go. No I'm just bummed that I have to get my 100 or 150 kills with the double barrel again to get sawed off barrel (the gun is useless until you get that).

Just b/c you can do something, doesn't make it right. Could Usain Bolt steal from a store and outrun them? Yep. Could a huge dude with strength punch someone to death?

One problem with your comparison, stealing and murder is illegal but modifying server configs is not illegal.
