Re: What's up with all the crazy servers?
Well I wouldn't say it's illegal because if Treyarch left those settings to be modified on ranked servers they have themselves to blame.
Whether it's lame or not is debatable. I don't have the game but I couldn't care less if it happened in say CoD4.Comment

Re: What's up with all the crazy servers?
Just b/c you can do something, doesn't make it right. Could Usain Bolt steal from a store and outrun them? Yep. Could a huge dude with strength punch someone to death? Yep. Etc etc, just b/c you have the ability to do something, doesn't mean it's right. I hope that no one who berated Patton for altering his mp data file comes on here and approves of this. We had that entire discussion and I put these power level servers with 4000pts per kill right up there with just going in the file and altering it yourself. In fact, it probably takes more skill to alter your mp data, at least that required some thinking.

Re: What's up with all the crazy servers?
Of course... but then there's the crucial difference that this is just a game and not a matter of life and death. Those that use power level servers are just ruining their own potential fun of ranking up and for what? A shiny little star next to their name that means absolutely nothing other than they have no life and a few extra custom class spots. A player that doesn't use power level servers is most likely going to have more fun, and he's not directly at a disadvantage either because the weapons are pretty balanced in this game unlock-wise.
I understand that some people are mad about this (including you jomamaz) but everyone's entitled to their opinion and I'm just stating mine. No hard feelings :)
I must say Treyarch have made rather a few mistakes with the release of this game though. No demo recording quickly killed off most of the competitive play and the rest is either angry about power leveling or if you're old school, the dreaded perks.Comment

Re: What's up with all the crazy servers?
Pretty lame in my opinion. I tried Power Level Servers S&D and they were damn boring. What is the fun in being spawn camped or spawn camping is beyond me. A useless attempt to gain rank quickly, truly might as well do the rank glitch if you're just going to play in these servers.Comment

It sucks that the manufactures of the game have left this fault open.
As a Leader of a Clan, If I dont offer some type of Extra XP on my servers the players will go somewhere else to find it, Period people are not stupid they will go find power up servers.
points dont mean anything anyways, I dont understand why people even care, the real problem is the servers are not on a level playing field anymore. Its not about my personal wish or what I think is right. I paid money my own dam money to run COD servers, for my Clan and for Normal people to play on, why should my servers be empty while other servers offering extra XP will be full.
The problem is that we need a fix for this and all servers need a level playing field. The ones that need to do more testing and thinking are the people making these crappy games that I love spending my hard earned money on!!Comment

Re: What's up with all the crazy servers?
No you're fine sir, I'm not enraged by any means, I just find it silly that people do it and think they're elite.
This is somewhat like what happened in CoD4. The game was somewhat ghey in the beginning months b/c everyone was so worried about ranking up, but b/c this game has more ranks and prestige, the gheyness is lasting longer. -_- Once it calms down, people actually start playing and enjoying the game. I will try and have patience until we reach that time.Comment

Re: What's up with all the crazy servers?
Just last night I had trouble finding a 'normal' server. Every server that had a decent number of players was a powerlevel server. What a bummer. I finally found a good server and enjoyed a bunch of rounds with some other fair minded folk.Comment

Re: What's up with all the crazy servers?
Oddly enough, Battlefield 2 was never like this. My guess is because stats were so open to the public (Like BF2s) that people never cared about stat padding, they wanted their stats to be as full and representable as possible.
Now of course, there were definitely stat padders but only a handful compared to COD:WaW, and how weird is that!
I only got to 2nd Lt. in Battlefield 2, but I enjoyed playing it because it had stats for just about everything and I liked having sexy stats, I never cared about what my rank was, and really still don't care.
I'ma be honest with you all, I am using my Prestige 10 account again... Wait, what? Yeah, I got to 4 Star and called it a day, wasn't even planning on going Prestige tbh but this damn gamn with its frickin corruption problems, even my backup profile became corrupted and reset. By no means am I going to do it all over again while nobs play in Power level servers. I got to where I wanted, Level 65, I had all the weapons and all the attachments for the weapons I use... I think Power Level Servers are now becoming a "I wanna be 1 more prestige than everybody else" type of deal, it isn't about getting to 4 star at all, it is about getting to the prestige levels 1-10. *sigh*Comment

Re: What's up with all the crazy servers?
The reason this didn't happen as much in BF2, was that stats were not stored on your local PC, and EA cracked down more on "illegal" stat-padding servers and players - shutting down the servers and/or wiping out players' stats. People didn't avoid it due to any sort of honour or sense of fair play.

Re: What's up with all the crazy servers?
That is what was upsetting me also, somewhat my main beef. I now need a "Powerlevel" filter in my server browser so I can find the normal servers.

Re: What's up with all the crazy servers?
I'd like to invite those looking for a normal server to drop by the[*] server ( 8.9.11.203 ) It's a 40 man TDM server which gets zero traffic as it is so feel free to hang out there until a patch comes out. I'd be willing to change the game type to suit the majority of players.
....just thought I'd offer.Comment

Re: What's up with all the crazy servers?
You know with all this drama with it I'm really tempted to just buy the game and powerlevel for the heck of it. Maybe pad of achievements in a LAN server too.
I fully do not care about Patton modding his mpdata or powerlevel servers. The flaw in your analogy is that stealing and murder is wrong, and there are laws against it. But afaik Treyarch has not said anything about this and it's debatable whether it's considered cheating or not. You can call it lame, but calling powerlevels cheaters is stretching it.Just b/c you can do something, doesn't make it right. Could Usain Bolt steal from a store and outrun them? Yep. Could a huge dude with strength punch someone to death? Yep. Etc etc, just b/c you have the ability to do something, doesn't mean it's right. Re: What's up with all the crazy servers?
That's contradictory.
You have to look at the motifs of the people who want to rank up via power levels. For you, it might not be fun, but for them it would be (otherwise no one would be in those servers). Maybe they decided that COD5 was too boring and long? An extra +10 levels adds a lot more experience you have to work for. And if you are considering trying to do prestige, well forget about that. They see this as an opportunity to get some more use out of the game, or finish off slaving to level 65. Since after all, they probably do have a life (contradictory of what you said). If you spend 20x more time ranking up prestige in vanilla servers, wouldn't that make you have no life?
People are probably taking advantage of this, by getting prestige (which would otherwise require no life), and still have a life.
Look at call of duty 4. Everyone is rank 55. There is no prestige. You got level 55 fairly quickly.. and yet, level 55 people still play the game and still have a great time. And was the fast-ranking servers that big of a deal with COD4? NO! Hell, I didn't even hear about this until this game. As I said before, there are a lot more ranks to get (unlike cod4), so naturally people want this experience to go faster.Comment
