    Re: 'tactical realism' servers rofl

Mods would be best, I agree, but as long as servers make "tactical realism" clear in the server name, and have good in-game messages laying out the rules, then they're usually fine. The problem with mods are that there's still somewhat of a stigma that some players never set the in-game mods filter to "yes or all", so it's harder to attract traffic that way...servers have a better chance while staying ranked.

We're always going to see those a$$hat clans/admins who treat pubs one way, and their own members another way - regardless of what mode or game-type is running.

TR can be fun, if you fully know what you're getting into and have a good group of people to play with. Nothing wrong with using any game to play TR, rather than waiting for specific ones like Op Flashpoint, IMO. It just needs to be fair, and made clear to the players as to what's expected. Even though it's getting more and more rare these days, it is kinda cool to play with people who use and abide by the honour system in-game.

i play in 7th's tact server all the time there is virtually no camping and the skill level of players is usually alot better

        Old thread is old.

Bad server rules are still bad.

One time I went in there, didn't know i can't spam through walls (Since apparently you don't do that IRL), and just started spamming the wooden wall in vacant. They could not move out of the way since they were walking.. It was terrible. I think i got 8 kills in less than 5 seconds before they yelled at me.

Some people thing tactical realism means that they can sprint to cover to cover, or hip fire someone if you are point blank. But NO! That's the fundamental problem with these servers.. The perception of what is tactical and what is not. They should just play insurgency mod for source, or project reality for bf2. A mod that FORCES you to be tactical through trial and error.

Personally, I would not like to be next to these people in a real life battle.

Unfortunately, you came across a particularly anal-retentive bunch of noobs. Most TR servers I've played on allow you to sprint to cover when under fire, and I've never had an issue with hip-fire at point blank range (but a lot of people try to abuse the definition of point blank though, to quickly fire at targets further away and claiming they were "point blank").

That my friend is what makes these servers so horrible. Anybody can interpret what you do as an illegal maneuver and justify themselves in booting your *** from their server.

Why would someone do that? Because jerks don't like to lose.

I have the same problem with the lame servers that have stupid rules like no bunny hopping or no running and gunning.

Yeah, but that can happen on any server, especially clan servers when a lot of their members are on the opposite team. You really see the "hate-to-lose" attitude there.

This type of lameness is perhaps more obvious on TR servers because there are fewer of them, and they run particular rulesets, but as you mentioned, it's a symptom of having jerks or fools with admin rights, and can be seen in random servers too.

IMO, for things like hopping and RNG, there should always be a number of warnings before being kicked, as they really are minor infractions at worst. But the hopping thing (whether actual bunnyhopping or evasive or corner jumping) does annoy a lot of people and belongs more in sci-fi games like UT/Quake. I'm not saying it doesn't take skill - it does - but it's a practice that most people in public servers don't use/don't want in games with a "real world" setting, so players should be ready to adjust their tactics accordingly depending on what the server allows.

                  Re: 'tactical realism' servers rofl

i personally like to play without people putting guidelines and ''rulz'' into a game like ''oh oh you cant do that'' seriously i've had this anoyance with other games its just the whole mentality breeds mediocrity, lack of imagination and lazy gameplay the less rules there are (other than hacking or stupid glitching stuff, bascially anything your able to do within the set structure of the game) the better because you end up having to think a bit harder, be a bit more flexible and will overall better improve your gaming in general.

yes you hear these sob stories all the time about ''I work hard for my money and i payed for a server so my rulz i want to have fun''

howbout: stop crying because we ALL work and just get better at the game and then you can have fun without dumbing things down

or "we like to keep our servers populated so we put a few rules in place that make the game more enjoyable for casual gamers coming into our server to have fun"

umm: casual gamers dont deserve to have fun because they are half a$$ed nubs that need to realize that they will have a hard knock life until they stop being dumb and slow and wearing a big heavy coat of morals and ethics and thinking people are using wallHAX when really they are on some guys UAV and then he BUnnYhoPZ around a corner and shoots them with a deagle

This is exactly the kind of arrogant elitism that encourages groups/clans to run custom servers with specific rule-sets.

Field, what do you mean "noobs" don't deserve to have fun? Let the "casual" players play in their own server, they bought the game, they deserve to enjoy it. If you don't wish to deal with the whining, move on to leagues and more competitive servers and quit your whining.

You know, the skills you speak of come in two forms: inherited and learned.

My aim sucks. That is a plain fact of life. Each round, I'll come in about the middle of the pack, many times with a KDR lower than one. And you know what? I'm fine with that fact. Many servers cater to my style of play and despite my lack of inherited skill, FPS games still entertain me. You'll never find me throwing around hackusations because the fact that there are leagues of players better than I is blatantly apparent.

However, over time, my weapon control has improved, and I know where enemies typically hide. Those traits are learned skills. What you have are inherited skills, and you have zero right to be proud or egotistical about that; if anyone was to take credit for your ability to win so much, it would be your parents, not you.

In short, this game is made for the masses. The servers tweak the stock game to appeal to niches of players, like you and me. Find your niche and stay there; don't concern yourself with the rest of the servers out there.
