Now what did I say a few posts earlier? The trench gun rocks.

But I'm not buying the game because of one weapon. I think the beta will be just fine for me, when it's over I'll be so sick of it I don't need to play it ever again :)

I suppose I might buy it if they fix the rifles.

Oh and btw, I've had some hit detection issues as well. Not sure if it's because everyone plays with a ping over100, but there's something odd about it. I had a point blank trenchgun shot on a sniper do zero damage yesterday... annoying.

Nothing at all wrong with that - I've seen people absolutely hate either game (or both, lol). Personally, I wouldn't mind some turnover...there are lots of people who played COD4 like it was UT/Quake/Halo, and that became irritating too. If some of them go away, and some old-school COD/MOH players return, then the mix will change, hopefully for the better. I'm glad that there are some significant differences between this and COD4 coming up.
Agreed also. I could see this was coming when they announced this CoD would be WWII again. A lot of people whined and said, "Not boring WWII again." Others we're thrilled! When I played CoD4, I would laugh a lot of times. B/c of it's popularity, there were a lot of nubs who played it. I'm not trying to appear l33t, I'm just saying, compared to some other fps games, there is a greater percentage of sucky people to good people in CoD4. People hear about the game from others, want to play what the majority of people are playing, and yeah, let the slaughter ensue lol. I say noobs referring to the way they play their game in general. Not necessarily bad shots (although that also), but you can tell the difference between someone who's played any fps before vs this is their first one.

I'm glad the series is back to WWII, and I agree also Whiskey, that hopefully some will leave, and others will come back to the series who left b/c of CoD4. I want the CoD series to be successful, and it is and will be, but some people need to realize this is CoD, not Counterstrike, BF2, or any other game. It has won many awards, been very successful, and is still here today because it is different, or supposed to be , than the other games out there and it delivers an 'experience' to which most games cannot compare.

I agree, but just because it's called Call of Duty and just because it's won numerous awards does not automatically make it a great game. Having a good "experience" is OK for many who don't play much, but having a well-made, quality game is something much, much different.

I believe they go together like PB and J. If you don't have a well-made, quality game, you won't have a good experience with it. Can you have a well-made quality game and not have a good experience with it? :)

I think that may be it. I'm having almost no trouble with knifing so far (a few attempts that missed, but meh), and the "stab" is really satisfying. But I agree, it doesn't seem to have the lunge effect as much as COD4. I am especially enjoying knifing the dogs - very effective, especially if they're already attacking one of my team mates...they're very easy to kill if they're not coming right at you (or if they are, you can rush them before they leap and often get the drop on them).

              ..

I finally played the game for several good hrs last night. It has elements of COD4, but I agree with those who said it feels different too. A "good" kind of different, IMO. I think some of that is due to the weapons. So far, I'm really enjoying this.

Crysis, well made (graphics, physics, etc.) but I hardly enjoyed playing it. The opposite though is harder to find, but there are a few examples where games are just pure fun.

Anyways, my point is that just because it's Call of Duty shouldn't grant the game immediate and bountiful praise - it should be treated objectively, which I don't think it's getting.

Anyone not saying it is similar to COD4 just because it uses the same engine, is fooling themselves.

The Quantum of Solice game uses COD4s engine... its different.

This however, is similar. The clue is in the game name... the game types, the perks, the attachments, the ironsights, the controls, movement.

I'm not saying its not good, but it is VERY similar.

No doubt its similar. Look basicly anywhere and you can say oh thats cod4 style. Radar, Icons, XP Bar, Menu and more. They should have went classic with this game, it just feels wrong with Germans hosing down people with a Thompson and stuff. For console it may be Decent IMO, but its not working for my likes on PC.

And ive had several instances where there was a lunge. I got knifed from a good distance before, and ive lunged a guy from a good distance before aswell, maybe its just me but its still there.

You can still lunge a fair bit, but not quite as long as in CoD4. Unless, you unlock the bayonet and you can stab people even further away. Handy with the trenchgun but I can see it being annoying for the opponents being knifed across the map :p

Hardcore is no longer a "standard", as in COD4. HC now basically means "no HUD", and the rest of it can be adjusted, including different levels of health (miniscule, half, normal, double) and different health regen methods (none, slow, normal, fast).

So depending on how a server is set up, you can get a different feel or flavour of HC mode on different ones.

I have made a suggestion to the developers to try to find some way to let players know what these settings are before you join a server though (ie. maybe when you click "Server Info").

It's good that you made that suggestion, because I agree. I don't like going into a server thinking one thing but then it's something completely different.

All the different settings is almost a downside. Youll never know what you are logging into. I dont mind having weapons/perks/kill streaks altered, but to have a high level of changes to health and gun power is a bit much.

                              Or is that an option?

But I really really really hate how you have to press X for the full map, it takes too long! It's dumb.

Other than that, I like it...?
CoD:WW's kill rewards are much less annoying than CoD4's, IMO.

I find the artillery much less of a pain than the CoD4 equivalent; reason being, if you know where to look you can get a pretty accurate estimation of where the shells will land and there is plenty of time to get out of the way. I also find the dogs less annoying than CoD4's chopper. They're hardly a pain to kill at all, they're constantly barking and it only takes a couple shots to kill them or one knife hit.

My only beef with the game at this point is that the bolt-actions are underpowered, which the developers have apparently acknowledged.
