I swear I read somewhere they had changed it a bit for Far Cry 2, probably wrong though

lol that flamethrower looks beasty, I found the SAW machine gun in one of the safehouse buidlings and its a beast but so far the only guns I have bought are still the MP5+makharov

found the spas12 which was good, then I found a golden Ak47, which is supposed to be a secret gun or something, am waiting for the Barret and M4 to become sellable at an arms dealer, although I have currently exhausted their missions

Dairuka, you shouldn't have bought the game if you were going to complain. It was widely known that it was going to be shipped with SecuROM :p

Thats a ***** for sure, but unless it was listed in the terms and conditions that they can terminate usage without consent, a court case would always be succesful and they should be refunded, unless the company goes bankrupt whereas yes, i can see this becoming a problem

But If this securerom stuff becomes big time, im sure legislation will pass so that it will protect the customer, in this country for sure at least

SecuROM is already big time... four leading publishers (Take-Two, THQ, EA, Ubisoft) are planning to, or have already used it's invasive licensing limitation software.

Plus... If you're an American, then look up, The Digital Millennium Copyright Act. You'll then see how wrong you are about expecting Congress to do anything about it.

I didn't have my epiphany until I was affected. I willfully ignored Vreki's warnings about the DRM because I was so caught up in the sparkle and shine that was Spore.

I was apathetic, and I apologize to every single person who has had to put up with me saying things like, "But you can phone them for more licenses.", or "But SecuROM gives you back an license after you uninstall.".

Oh how wrong I was...

Even scarier is the fact that we'll eventually be forced to pirate a game we paid for when the inevitable moment that a DRM license server is shut down happens.

Don't think it's possible? Tell that to Yahoo! Music customers.

I don't care about Yahoo! music customers, i don't care about anything.

People always tell me about these evils, DRM, Punkbuster, SecuROM etc... except, none of them ever effect me. They just work.

I've never had a problem, 95% people don't.

You have 5 activations on 3 separate PCs.

- Uninstalling the game “refunds” an activation. This process is called “revoke”, so as long as you complete proper uninstall you will be able to install the game an unlimited number of times on 3 systems.

- You can upgrade your computer as many time as you want (using our revoke system)

- Ubisoft is committed to the support of our games, and additional activations can be provided.

- Ubisoft is committed to the long term support of our games: you’ll always be able to play Far Cry 2.

MaxisCactus (a member of Maxis, not just a forum manager) stated that all copies of Spore gave you 5 installations, and would refund an activation upon un-installation.

What he failed to tell you was that the 5 installations were for only people who bought copies of Spore made after October 3rd, and that un-installing actually doesn't refund you an installation, it merely doesn't credit you with reinstalling it on the same computer setup..

However, if you change even one piece of major hardware such as your Hard-Drive, or Motherboard. You've effectively used up an installation.

Please also note that these installations are not concurrent, but Total.

Finally. EA has also made many press releases about it's de-activation tool, yet still refuses to give us an ETA on it, despite many thousands of threads on the Spore General Discussion forum.

If Ubisoft has actually done it, and not just say they've done it.... Good... they need to show EA how to do it.

Since launching Spore earlier this month EA has been hit with a deluge of users who are upset with the game's DRM
measures. Last week we discussed Spore's activation limitation, which limits users to one online account per copy of the game; another controversial item EA has introduced is limiting the number of times the game can be installed to just three PCs.

EA states that their policy is similar to iTunes, but actually Apple's software allows you to authorize up to five PCs. Another difference between iTunes and Spore is that Apple actually provides a tool allowing you to deauthorize PCs -- Spore doesn't. EA plans to change that soon though in an upcoming patch. No ETA is provided on when this patch will be released however.

There has been two patches since that article was made. We still lack the De-activation tool. We still lack the ETA.

This is why there is a problem. The only game that I know has a de-authorization tool up to date is Bioshock.

Im not american so your argument flies right out the window :p

I mean using it for most DVD films, music, games and other downloadable content so that the lives of a good proportion of the population are affected

id hardly call EA plus a few other games developers 'big time' when the rest of the developers jump on board then people might take notice

In the end you can complain all you want, but really theres nothing you or anyone else other than the government can do about it, unless you want to fight a long hard legal battle that youll probably lose because the big game publishers can afford the best lawyers. We get raped by big buisness everyday this just seems another of those annoyances that i can let pass by because 99% of people dont have more than five machines in their home and you can easily resell because a new user has four more installations



edit: been reading Ubisofts policy on all of this and it seems fair enough, nothing that id really get outraged with at all

It's both but DX10 is buggy, from what I've seen from various other forums :P

Don't like the DRM? Buy the game, install it as many times as you like and when you can't do it anymore, pirate it lol

DX10.1 doesn't add any new effects, it simply allows compatible cards to process the graphics more quickly and efficiently. In theory, ATI cards should run the game faster.

I never stated it did. I was only interested in the fact that the Nvidia cards will run DX10.1 even though they are classed as DX10.

DX10 is bollocks anyway.
