Is Anybody REALLY Impressed with COD:WaW?

I played the beta and it feels like it is just a remake of COD4 but in WWII. I mean, yes, it uses the same engine and what not, but I expected it being made by a different group, I would've thought it would be *different*

All the flaws in COD4 are in COD:WAW. I mean, the knives for one. People jab their bayonet from quite a distance and it gets you.

The Dogs, I hit a dog with 4 rounds from a BAR and it continued to attack me. I expected like 2 shots, especially with a bar would make a dog go down.

I understand it is to award the player with the spree, but that seems kind of ridiculous when I have 3 dogs coming after me.

I am going to get it solely due to a few of my clan mates getting it and for BFE, but I really do not see much of a "Wow, look at that!" change. Maybe I was expecting too much? At the same time, may just because I hate FPS on XBOX360, I will have to wait and see how it feels on PC.

    Ugh, realists...

If I went off elaborating, I'd feel like a broken record. To be honest, I'm dead tired of explaining it.

Re: Is Anybody REALLY Impressed with COD:WaW?

Most people here have probably not played the Xbox360 Beta, so until we get the PC version, we'll have trouble giving an in-depth opinion.

      From the videos...
      I like the graphics
I like the map designs (will have to see about size though)
      I like the co-op feature
I like the idea of COD4 gameplay but with WWII weapons, especially the rifles
I like having vehicles that don't seem overpowered.
I like the new squad features that should help with team work

Hard to say if I'm REALLY impressed, but I'm very optimistic from what I've seen, and I'm honestly looking forward to it quite a bit. I haven't pre-ordered (never do), but I'm buying this game on Day 1 unless the PC Beta turns out to be an absolute disaster.

Re: Is Anybody REALLY Impressed with COD:WaW?

I know exactly how you feel. First of all though, let me say it is harsh to judge a game that has not fully been realised, but I'm going to do that to some degree here, to back your theory up.

Basically, and I have said this to some clan friends of mine, I saw COD4 as a really good game, but it was never definitive. I remember playing Medal of Honour: Allied Assault. Not only was that a truly fantasic single player, it was an outstanding multiplayer experience, only soured by problems with cheating.

This game broke the boundaries of the time, and in almost every way provided an experience that for one second would not annoy me.

COD4, and to some degree I am going to bracket COD5 with this, did not quite revolutionise things for me. There were too many annoying things - my main concern revolved around red dots/uav/airstrikes...you may have heard this from me before! It's a massive oversight from the developers of these games to not realise they are dumbing down these games by displaying to users where other players are, rather than making them work for it.

I just see at the moment that COD5 is something in a similar vein. I like the sounds of the guns, how they handle and so on from what I have played. The gore looks good. Unfortunately we are still at a place where we have the same type of experience, with better graphics and game mechanics that are quite annoying.

Shooting through walls? Some people may see this as a nice advancement, but we all know and hated wall banging with ret dots in COD4 - shooting at red dots in the distance. We are all guilty of it, because it is the easy thing to do. Is it fun though?

To be honest I much prefer being able to use cover in walls, know that if I am quiet I will not be shot anyway. Know that someone who tried to camp and shoot me was killed because I was quick - not because I saw they on some mini map. These things were ever present in COD4 and as long as it continues within COD5, I will not be happy with what I am getting.

Of course there is a lot of good stuff about the game, and I hope beyond hope they have not overlooked these things. I guess we just have to wait for the beta huh.

            I like the graphics
I like that it is somewhat similar to CoD4

            I hate the perks
I hate the gun animations in their current state

Everything else I'm neutral about this far. I'm waiting to play the PC beta, or at least see videos from it.

UO on the CoD4 engine - no perks or attachments - would have impressed me; however, I wasn't expecting that at all. This is a game with a primary audience of Xbox Live. That said, I will still be buying it because it will be as entertaining as (or more than) the next game.

Well I started with low expectations so I can say im pleased with what i have seen so far apart from the dogs. They seem to have taken what worked well with CoD4 and expand on it, which is good.

Re: Is Anybody REALLY Impressed with COD:WaW?

I have to admit that I dont think I fall under the "really" impressed catagory. I have not been really impressed with a game in YEARS. There is so much information on a game now before its released that its more of what I expected.

Im waiting for the PC beta, but I will probably be just impressed or "happily" impressed.

An example of impressed was when I set fire to a splicer in Bioshock and they ran to the water, which I then electrocuted. I was impressed with that. I lost it though when I set fire to others and because there was no water, they simply ignored the flames consuming their flesh and kept shooting.

i think they made this game for ww2 fans because they felt they have been let down or something. I have no problems whit this game but it sux on console like cod4 on console.

Re: Is Anybody REALLY Impressed with COD:WaW?

I dont know if they made it because they let people down. Thats not a good reason to make a game. If that was the case, FFOW2 should be out pretty quick.

The roots are in WW2 for CoD. After seeing the variations they used between 4 and 5, I really believe 4 was a testing ground. There was a post about all the extra coding in the CoD4 game that wasnt used, such as the teargas and having dogs. Now here we are with CoD5 and we now have tear gas and dogs. They also adjusted things that people did not like in CoD4, such as last stand and a counter martyrdom and removing the heli.

I wouldnt be surprised at all if CoD6 had everything 5 did but was modern. They are hinting around that it may be future or something else entirely, but you get my thinking.

CoD4 was a test and it passed with flying colors. It wasn't perfect, but they took note of that and are making changes.

Also, with the new naming system, vehicles, buddy list, squad play, I really think they are targeting the Battlfield community hard. I mean, look how close the changes are.

Re: Is Anybody REALLY Impressed with COD:WaW?

No im not impressed. To start it looked really nice on paper and such, but then after playing for an afternoon i started to really get the feel of it (360 Beta this is).

To me it looks and feels like they tried to force feed BF2 and COD3 down COD4's throat. Much of the feel of it so far seems like COD4, Controls and such that just come with the engine. But then some things you just feel like "Oh IW didnt make that" Things like skins damages ect. At least some stuff in cod4 was reasonable. The stock/"Core" or as my friends are calling it because they called it core, Soft-Core (for all the wimps and bitches not man enough to play hardcore, or so they explain it as). Anyway its way to arcadey if you will. The damages even for a non realistic part of a game are so off i cant stand playing it for more of a duration than a few minutes. The attachements and perks come in an abundance but it seems like they just tried to throw things in to appeal to the COD4 BF2 and WW2 Shooter audiences.

And if its going to turn out anything like COD4, i'll end up purchasing it for the 360 and PC, get bored of it on the PC because it felt to much like a console game, then get bored of it on the 360 because its to repetitive and grueling to go through every weapon to get something for it.

                        BF2 Things:
                        Squads
More Ranks (Up to 65 this time)
More unlocks from those ranks (More custom classes, if you spend your whole life on it)

                        Pros:
-Even though ive been whining so far, its another down right fun call of duty game. How long it will last for me i cant say, but for now its fun.
                        -WW2 Action
-Familiar System (For those that leeched onto cod4)
                        -Abundance of Weapons.
-Some new systems that could be better utilized but nice try on copying bf2.
                        -CO-Op Should be fun.

Cons of what ive seen so far:
-Dogs are over used, mid to end of the map its like a Rabid dog filled human society building just blew up a mile away.
-Paired with dogs comes the over abundance of arty literally screaming down ontop of your head, pinning you in 1 place to get raided by dogs with the off chance a arty shell will hit you inside the building (Its happened to me a few times).
-Im speaking for my self, but the gun sounds are down right wimpy, if i wanted to shoot a nail gun i'd go out in my garage and do some work.
-For the PC (have yet to play that), the names, cant stand not being able to change my name even if i wont do it probably. Just easier for people to change on a whim.
                        -Tanks are ridiculous
                        -Damages are off
-Im a realistic guy, and some guns just dont have enough recoil for me( not to start a war here or anything)

Woops, sorta went on a rant but those are my initial impressions from it. Even if the Cons greatly out weigh the Pros, the "Fun" part of it is the kicker, it is a good game. But i would have liked if they would learn from other games and not exactly try to copy them.

I'm not a realism freak but I have to agree with the above poster on many of his points. My biggest gripe is that you can choose any weapon. That just smacks of arcade to me. Watching US Marines use the G43 or their Japanese counterparts using the MP40 just seems ludicrous. It isn't a deal breaker for me, I'll still buy it but I'm thinking that I'll be playing Far Cry 2 much more often than this game.

Re: Is Anybody REALLY Impressed with COD:WaW?

Thing is, I really only have the funds to spend on one game at the moment; either FarCry 2 or Call of Duty World at War.

I have decided to get World at War, and save Far Cry 2 for a few months down the line, possibly around Christmas time.

Now, Silenthunter, you are absolutely correct on many accounts! The guns sound wimpy, sounds like I am shooting silenced Airsoft guns to be honest, and the machine guns sound like high powered airsoft guns. It really is pathetic.

The grenade sounds, the arty sounds, they are top notch!

                            My Pros:
-The gore! Don't let an arty shell hit your buddy, he will be dismantled.
                            -The bigger size maps.
-Familiar game play; jump right in and own up.
                            -World War II again
-More unlocks capable. COD4 was just too quick with unlocks. Took me a few days to get them all.

                            Neutral Field:
-Tanks. They can really ruin a game. Takes like 3-4 other tank shells to destroy a tank, like WTF? Takes like 4 Anti-Tank missles to blow up a tank. REALLY OVERPOWERED!
-Weapons. Although it is an arcade game, it is disappointing as mentioned above that every team can use every weapon, at the same time though, does give more variety to the player.
-Skins. Some just seem unrealistic, like Marines running around with minimal gear on (IE: no helmet). This isn't parts of Vietnam, it is World War II. People were in full uniform all the time to protect themselves.

                            Cons:
Dogs are overpowered! Takes 3 shots from an SVT, 3 shots from a BAR to kill 1 dog. WTF? Unlike a chopper, these dogs go after every player of your team at once, gives up your position, and if you are not looking out for them, unlike a chopper that you can hide from, these dogs will get you.
-Artillery has too many shells raining down. Unlike the 3 bomb airstrikes, these arty shells will keep coming for what seems like at least a minute.
-Damages are a bit off. Takes a hell of a lot from, say, a Thompson to kill someone while a bolt action will take them down in 1 shot. O_o

I guess it is the whole "Realism" portion that is lacking that makes the game negative, but what COD4 didn't have, it does seem that World at War does, so this should be a pretty good game!

As a matter of fact, I already pre-ordered the Collector's Edition {Comes with the FG 42 Machine Gun lvl 45 unlock and a week of double experience in multiplayer.} Paid it in full {75 dollars} and already told the boss I needed nov. 11th off for an appointment {WITH COD THAT IS !!!!}. So yeah, I think it's fare to say I am impressed with what I have seen this far.
