Re: Avoiding choppers
I have an armor K/D above 20 playing mostly on Oman, so I think I can give you some useful tips on how to avoid choppers. Here they are:
1) Play on populated servers (at least 40 players). This is very important! You cannot avoid choppers in 1 vs. 1. So the more players the better.
2) Play on maps where there is only one attack chopper per side. Two of them are too much to avoid using an armor.
3) If you are spotted, you are dead. So your goal is to avoid being spotted both by the chopper and by other enemies. In order to avoid being spotted DON’T
-capture flags
-even be near enemy flags (instead of that stay near your own flag and defend it or suppressive fire at the nearest enemy flag)
-stand in open places without any cover (be sure that there is always something (a building, trees or whatever) near you that makes it harder to spot you visually)
4) Situational awareness is essential. Situational awareness is your best ’weapon’ against choppers. This is what can save your life. Smoke and evasion maneuvres worth **** most of the time. This is the only thing that really works to avoid them. So always be aware of what's going on in your environment. You must know where the chopper is. You cannot avoid a chopper if you don’t know where it is. Don’t let it happen that the chopper knows where you are while you don’t know where the chopper is. So
-always scan the sky and when you see the chopper always spot it (with the spotted button). Your heli/jet pilots will be grateful for your spot and if they are skilled they will definately attack it.
-watch your minimap constantly and pay attention to your teammates's spottings. After you became aware where it is coming from, move behind a building, where it cannot see you, and start firing at it when it doesn’t look into your direction.
5) Places to avoid: There are certain places on every map that are so open and/or frequented that you will be definately TV-ed if you enter these areas, no matter how much you try to pay attention to choppers. On Oman in my opinion these are the areas that must be avoid in order to stay alive as long as possible. So try not to enter them if you want to survive.
6) About popping smoke: don’t pop it when the heli alredy sees you, pop it when you see it turning into your direction. When the heli can see you, smoke can make the chopper a little harder to hit you but most of the time you will be still hit, so I would advise to pop smoke and immadiately get out and run to a safe distance from the tank.
7) Forget APC-s! They are maybe good vehicles against infantry but they worth nothing against choppers. In order to avoid choppers, you have to shoot them down as well, but you cannot shoot down choppers with an APC, so take the tank!
8) When you get TV-ed two times in 30 seconds, then you better realise that that round isn’t about your tankwhoring, because skilled players use the chopper, so forget the armors, and don’t even go near them. Take a chopper/jet and find out what they can do against something that actually has a chance against them.
I created a tank fragmovie a while ago. It’s a fragmovie and it was made for entertaining so I don’t think you can learn a lot of it (maybe some good spots) but if you like tanking you may like it.
