I would assume ea/dice only care about money, and knowing that 2142 sales were a lot less than bf2's (don't know the exact numbers) it would seem logical to stay away from future-era games. And WWII has been done to death, which only leaves modern.

Personally I'd be very happy if it was a remake of bf2 with improved features and gameplay.

I would have to agree there is nothing like modern warfare, something you can relate to, plus I need a new game, I had high hopes for ET QW and FFOW they were supposed to replace my BF2 addiction but failed...

Yeah so is Duke Nukem Forever. And while I do believe BF3 will come out before that will, it still may not be anytime in the near future.

I look forwards to BF3 but shall wait patiently until it arrives.................i just hope it is back to WW2 and not modern combat, that too has been done to death.

With WW2 you have a far wider selection of theatres to base the combat on so it's not just desert warfare but also Artic; Jungle; countryside. The technological advancements made by both sides during WW2 were along similar lines so that lends itself perfectly to maintaining a balance in the gameplay where as basing a game say, on Afghanistan, would have the Allies using all the technological might we have to hand such as apache gunships etc and the Afghani's throwing stones or shooting AK47's!!

Oh god no! Not another World War II game. As the fast-talking Yahtzee once said, they've been releasing Medal of Honor games for longer than WWII itself actually lasted.

Seriously, we've had 7 Call of Duty WWII games (incl. Big Red One, Finest Hour etc.), 12 Medal of Honor WWII games, 3 Wolfenstein WWII games, 5 Brothers in Arms WWII games, 2 Hidden and Dangerous WWII games, 2 Day of Defeat WWII games, 1 Battlefield WWII game, and a whole array of other non-series WWII games.

We're getting to the point where a game about WWII has been made for every person who died in WWII, it's ridiculous.

We need another modern warfare game built on the advanced next generation of gaming. Crysis is great, but it's multiplayer sucks and it's set in the future. Operation Flashpoint 2 looks promising, but it's far too focused on realism to cater for the wide array of BF2 fans that are looking for a new game.

Battlefield 3 should essentially be an upgrade on BF2. Set the story shortly after the events of BF2, add more features such as characterization and destructible landscapes, build it on a new engine, and give us something refreshing. Not another WWII game.

Say what you will, I like WW2 games also. Wild Egg Tamer listed some good reasons why.

I've spent hundreds of hours watching WW2 movies in my life, so playing WW2 games is pure win. I like modern combat and sci-fi, too. Don't get me wrong. :thumbsup:

I would prefer BF3 to be a Modern Warfare game, but I wouldn't mind too much if it was based on WW2.

I wouldn't be too keen on Sci-Fi though.

I'd be mega pissed if it was WW2 lol, modern day is the best imo, I just hope they don't turn it into something like COD4

errrr, me thinks "modern" has been done repeatedly too........the problem with anything based on warfare is that you are going to get repetition; be it vietnam, modern, WW1/2 or even the American Civil war. There is only so much that you can base a war game on!

If it turns out that BF3 is modern, i'll still play it as i have with every release since 1942, primarily because i like the style of play the BF series offers, i've tried Call of Duty and i can't get on with the control system; not being able to bind keys to the numerical pad was a pain for my playing style.

I've not been around the forums for a while so i'm sure the BF3 topic has been raised a fair few times but i think what everyone wants to see is good use of existing and future hardware, proper testing of the game prior to release, plenty of content; not just 5 or 6 maps, fully immersive enviroments but still retain the BF style of play that still draws me to BF1942, vietnam etc many years after some of those titles were released.

Just because a game is "modern combat" doesn't mean it has to take place in a desert. Just the use of modern vehicles, guns and buildings would be good enough for me. Other than that, the game could take place in a jungle, desert, a big city, arctic/antarctic, mountains, underwater.... BF2 has covered some of these already. There's desert maps, city maps, kind of jungle maps (some maps have woods you can hide in and snipe from). I love the maps in BF2, but it's just missing some snow maps and some city maps with tall buildings.

I like modern ground and aerial vehicles and modern guns over WW2 vehicles and guns.

Hope its set in the Balkins (Bosnia), great terrain and urban settings for a game.

Although having a game set here may be a sore spot for some.

I have a feeling battlefield 3 will be somethings nobody has expected. Something totally outrageous. None of us will be able to predict what battlefield 3 will be, and dice doesn't seem too keen on listening to the their fanbase.

Vietnam was my favorite, it was buggy, and it seemed underrated to me. I usually ended up playing co-op online.

I can't wait until Operation Flash-point 2, I most likely would get it for my ps3, due to the fact I don't feel like upgrading my computer again.

I hope BF3 is a remake of Vietnam though.
