Isn't the whole point of making a mod to improve gameplay, attract players, and create a fanbase? From what I see, the current scenario is quite similar to those stupid beta's FP has - they let the people who pay get it quicker, even when those who paid aren't necessarily the target market.

All that this will do is draw in more smacktards who don't know much about PR - but are intrigued because of the FP exclusive, just like the betas. Like Xodus said, those who will be playing PR for weeks, and who have awaited .8's release, should be those who are catered to, and should be offered the right to download it on release day regardless. It shouldn't be up to whethere you're willing to pay or wait in line - fans have waited long enough, and now all you do is shove it back in their faces with even more bullsh!t.

Honestly, release days for popular mods are a sight to behold, but having it released and having to wait in a damn line for multiple hours is utterly ridiculous. And, quite honestly, if the only reason behind the decision was to attract more people, you should have done a much better job with the promotional.

Okay let me clear two things up:

1) You don't have to pay to d/l files off of Fileplanet, although some people have paid unintentionally anyways.
2) Fileplanet does benefit, as more traffic to its site = more ad revenue.

it was a cinch to DL from FP. it was finished while i was working out. no complaints.

In my opinion, it's quite possibly the most well made mods out there right now. In terms of gameplay dynamics, it's something that could be a standalone game and sell like hotcakes.

Before you play, though, read the manual. If you don't, you'll do something stupid like not joining a squad or getting a pilot kit and then trying to take off immediately after getting in the chopper. I'll tell you up front, you do NOT want to do that. In other news, just listen to your SL and do what he says. Use VOIP if you can - it really does make that big a difference.

Exclusivity rights are annoying. The PR team and FP most likely benefit from releasing the game early, exclusively to a single site. Hell, FP might even share the revenue that is created with PR/PR Team.

Personally, large scale mods tend to lose their charm once they start getting very corporate, it's one of the primary reasons they wade off. Which is rather contradicted as it temporarily boosts figures.

ye, from the looks of things it was a bad move from our point of view. We where hoping to be getting loads of promotion from FilePlanet for this, but at the moment we are rather disappointed with what we received which was basically, a huge load of complaints and hate mail from our community and that's really it so far. :hmm:

We did it with the best intentions for the mod but it turned sower and I don't think we will be doing any more exclusive releases like this in the future.

Thanks a lot on coming forward and explaining the situation. Everyone makes mistakes and it looks really good when developers come forward and admit they took the the wrong decision.

With that discussion passed, I look forward to trying out PR 0.8 and seeing all the hard work.
