tbf i don't think gaming should be an olympic sport by any means but i think it deserves more media attention

the only attention we seem to get is how violent and disturbed our games are ... more media coverage would mean more tournaments bigger prize money and deffinitely a bigger community per game!

can only be a good thing :)

I don't really think gaming is a skill, so i think large televised competitions would be silly.

If people have the reactions to game at a high level, they should use it do something more useful and skillfull

i see it similar to something like paintball or airsoft they get plenty of coverage (asia lol)

video gaming is still upcoming in years to come i believe competative play will become much more mainstream

Yes, paintballing and airsoft is a physical activity, something that requires real skill. Competitive computer gaming is just, well, sad really.

What really makes me laugh is these tactical realism clans. They so want to be in the real Army, but 90% of them are fat, middle aged men who couldn't do real physical activity if they tried.

I don't think Snooker, darts etc... should be olympic sports, however, they do require a lot more skill than computer games.

not necisarily it's all about precision right?
in my mind thast what games all boil down to, strip away the nerdy facade and in essence they are merely tests of precision timing and reactions and you can't argue that those aren't skills ....

I was reminded of the thread when watching the archery today. Seems to me there is more skill involved with 2142 than there is in sports like archery and CP shooting.

That said I wouldn't like to see 2142 as an Olympic discipline. There are already too many sports in the games as it is.

Archery does require skill. You have to be able to judge wind, drop, accuracy. That's also why shooting is in.

There is CPL and other leauges that you could call some sort of "gaming olympics"...

Games take skill, obviously, but it depends a lot on the game. If we look at the infantry aspect 2142 would be a better competitive game than BF2 as an example but the lack of competitive game modes and the half-arsed hit detection screw it up :p CS and Quake are a lot better for competitive play because they are a lot more consistant and less luck is involved (even though you can get reaaally lucky sometimes)
