Close combat with swords has at least something to do with honor. The best would be a katana-wakizashi combination.

Don't forget the Germans too. Operation Barbarossa would be awsome to fight in as a German up until the tide turns, then start the Russian campaign. Maybe throw in a few defense missions for both sides as well.
