I love the map, but we removed it from our server due to the APC, and Walker... I mean, when the PAC armor is dead the APC and Walker have a free go at baseraping the PAC.
Anyway, it is likely we will try it out again Inf Only, and if it's good it'll probably be back on our rotation.
But the problem with Inf Only is, there are 3 ways to get past the defences, they will be easier to protect for the EU now the PAC has no vehicle support.
But then again a squad with Smoke Granades does miracles
the lack of vehicles is not a problem and you dont need stupid smoke grenade parlor tricks you just need to get out there and kill enemies with gunning skills and have squads of INfantry that occasionaly help eachother out. combined with commander support. Fall of berlin is one of those maps that i would have played much more if there wasnt that huge armor threat of some dumb apc respawning every 30 seconds. They could have just made the spawn time longer more like 5 minutes so if a vehicle is taken out it will be OUT for a good amount of time. But the fact that on some maps i need to constantly spawn as engi because ANOTHER apc garbage mortar spammer is rolling up again it just makes playing the map stupid.

Yep. I don't really even mind the APC much on Belgrade, since there's a tank per side as well as a walker to deal with it, and the map starts out balanced so it doesn't begin as a lemming chokepoint-fest. Honestly, though, instead of IO they should have just replaced the APC on Berlin with an FAV or two. Personally I don't see myself playing Cerbere, Gib, or Tunis on IO - Berlin would be the only map that would appeal to me in that mode and even then it's only because of the aforementioned APC.
Fingulfin stated the reason(s) why already the buildings can't be easily modified. Plus, adding more geometry, programming and whatever else is more likely to break things than fix them. If it was as simple as some of the suggestions, the dev team would have done those simple fixes.

2 favs? oh yeah i totally agree with you on that one i was saying the same thing earlier. i mean look at the big wide open roads and such. it just seems like it would be fun woudnt it?
I played two rounds IO on Berlin yesterday and I really liked it. IMO Berlin in IO is very well balanced but if the APC is in action it is a complete different story as pointed out in this thread. There are enought oppertunities for PAC to grab (and hold) the first flag and advance from that point. I'm really looking forward to the infantery only function. BTW in a normal round on Berlin as commander your first objective should be to destroy the APC with Orbital strikes and EMP, once destroyed PAC actually has a chance

Ah, didn't see your earlier post. Yeah, I'm kind of surprised they didn't put any FAVs in but instead included a spamwagon on each side. It's the only city map with no FAVs and, coincidentally, it's also the one that's more of a cluster**** than any of the others (central/ruins stalemate on Gib notwithstanding ).
Actually its quite easy and non ram demanding to make new collision from the inside because on those huuuuge buildings etc you dont need to cover up the whole wall but only like 3 meters of a solid plate (only 2 poly's minimal)
And you only need the projectile collision to stop people from raping inside.
I don't think it would stress the system too much if they added a solid mass where no ons is supposed to go?
There is no such thing as solid masses in battlefield and perhaps other games. All surfaces are made up of flat plates of 0 depth, one wall may be made up of several plates, several for textures, one to stop bullets, the other to stop other objects from moving through.
When the mapper or you place another plate next to another, or even make them intersect the behavior between them may be a little off. You may have experienced death when a empty fav was propped up against a wall and you'd move in the space between.
Anyway, that's how i understand battlefield physics work.
Just had a few round IO on Berlin, Minsk and Cerbere. All as PAC.
First couple of rounds and the EU were raping us like you wouldn't beleive. Once we started working as a team and sorted out squad roles we started to pull it back. It's important to have squads with a good balance of players. Assaults running on flags and reviving, Assault supports and suppressive supports hanging back a little. A sniper staying well back to scope enemy recons. I think the best tip is to get on the first flag or break through early before they can get their defences set in.

eh as with every map thier aim with the setup originally was probly to try and emphasize all the classes. without armor on a map it makes engis less useful. but in this case having a couple of favs i mean if you wanted to go around getting roadkills theyre still of need it guess.
I no it will never happen but a few FAVs on IO would be cool if they had their guns removed. That way there is still transportation and a use for the engineer class.
The speed they go at make it nearly impossible to hit them at a distance with even a rorch, let alone Pilum. That and how they cheat their way out of proper EMP/Motionmine traps by boosting..
I see the point of fav's on IO berlin, but only as long as PAC is flagless, after which they should stop spawning. Nothing breaks the fun for me as a bunch of fav jockeys busting my traps just to cap a abandoned back flag or drive around uselessly trying to get roadkills for their precious stats.
I know some people don't agree with me, but that's bound to happen. Personally i don't see the point on such large maps, it ruins the whole "omg war" feeling for me. To each their own i suppose.
