But how can you tell?

the guy is waring US Army camo etc, and as the M4 is the standard issue of the US Army I would give it at 90% chance of being a M4, unless he is just some guy in a studio waring some army cloths and just had a background shoved behind him (which is most likely tbh) so I would give it a 50% chance then cos they would use w/e they had in the back room of the studio :p

They are basically the same gun on the outside, theres only real differences in the inside.

That pic was released before BF2 came out, it was in the early alpha builds of BF2 and if you look you will in fact see its the center island of Zartar Wetlands, with not much texture, overgrowth and statics applied to it as its in there alpha build, with loads of photoshop filters applied to the image to make it look "cool". It is not BF3 the image has been on the net for over 4 years?

Yeah, you can even see from graphics it's BF2 (albeit with an absolute shed load of Photoshop effects)

you didn't even know there was a difference between a M4 or M4A1 so I wouldn't talk like you know anything :p

The fact is if its a real photo, its a M4 thats fact. But if its not a real photo which it most likly is not cos of the way that guy is "posing" as you put it, it is a 50-50 chance. It could even be a BB gun :p

EDIT: if you gave me the gun I could tell you in a few secs if it was a M4 or a M4A1 :p

They probably don't want to say too much about something they're not even half-finished with.

If BF3 is anything like BFBC I'm happy.

Hence you dont see me being a smartas5. However, since you dont really know what gun hes holding, and are guessing based on stats, even though its known that both M4A1 and M4 are being used in Iraq, gives you limited credibility aswell, dont you think?

Didnt you say that you havent held an M4A1? Or that apart from the selector switch, you cant even make a difference between the two?

So I think its funny when the "Project Reality" experts, being beaten in their own game, quickly switch topics to still appear adequate and knowledgeable.

no cos in r/l things are much higher rez, where that pic its not, and it only shows the right side of the weapon where like waaah_wah, one if the essayist points to see if it was a M4 or M4A1 would be on the left side of the weapon where the fire mode switch is :)

again, your trying to be the smart *** here by claiming that holding a rifle is more comfortable then holding it in its popper and this is how r/l soliders hold there weapons?

If you want I can get some one on here who is a US Army solider to confirm that I'm saying if that helps you?

Actually, I never claimed that soldiers use their weapons while holding this on a regular basis, I merely explained to you WHY some people prefer to hold their M16 type carbine by the magwell, and you can ask anyone who has operated one, if it holds true.

Less control over recoil- yes
More control over rifle- yes

Pay close attention, people even pointed out the BF2 promo pic (doesnt come close to DICEs "Highway Tampa- NEW MAP!" fail, but still...). Hence the original topic being, for the lack of better words, boring.
