As a soldier with over 8 years of active duty, including some time in the 82nd Airborne Division, I'll say that a lot of soldiers hold their weapons like that guy in the picture. Well, most avoid having it out of the shoulder pocket, but a lot use the magwell as something to hold. Since we've gone to the IBA with plates, it's really hard for anyone under 6' tall to reach the foregrip and keep a good sight picture. At 6'1" I can do it, but it's pretty uncomfortable so I tend to get lazy from time to time and hold it by the magwell myself.
Though in the picture it looks like the guy is just looking through the sight at something, not preparing to engage a target.

Look at all those experts in this topic. If BF3 gathers the same kind of people, I'd rather have it future warfare again.
