The WWII genre is still very popular, especially among history buffs and slightly older gamers, and there's lots of money still to be made.

It makes a lot of sense to let another company like Treyarch take on COD5 (at least for one more year...rumour is that IW will then regain all rights to the COD franchise), with IW free to work on COD6.

It's IW that made CoD what it is, not the setting... I foresee another BF2 franchise let down. BF1942, great - BFV, fabulous - BF2, shine a light...

One things pretty much for sure, if there is a CoD5, it will most likely be the last.

I'd like to see CoD 5 be based on Vietnam. I think they are either going to do that or some kind of futuristic war which always turns out like crap. Really, what other major wars/conflicts were there that aren't kind of merged together or that would make an incredibly boring game (pre-WW I etc.)

Means we should be able to convert maps on CoD4 to CoD5 easily (would just need to texture the maps)
Also means should be able to easily use mods from CoD4 onto CoD5 plus they should be keeping the same fast file compression (.ff)
                          ...and ragdoll is always good.

(though I guess they probably won't fix the bounce glitch, or strafe jump or wall speed, unless they do modify the engine)

We were always able to port maps, so long as we had access to the .map file.
