You can overcome network lag if you know why the missiles miss and how to fix that. Its a combination of missile maneuverability/tracking code (15 second fix once you have the files open) and jets hitbox mesh peculiarities (takes some time to create the mesh). Besides, Im not sure if anyone has figured out whether or not you can make missiles explode in contact with the flares.

Last time i was in an AAV on PR my missiles would explode when they hit a flare.

Basically, the fact that missiles can miss J10 and F18 even when seemingly a whole metre or two off their backs the problem is still in coding. (then again, its simple. Flares into solid objects with a fairly large hitbox and voila)

Personally, I would love a combination of reliable missiles with proximity fuses that deal ~30% damage if not in direct impact and 51% with direct impact, with a detonation if it hits the flares. 15 flares a pop for maximum flare reliability.

Hm.. That pretty much how it works in PR isnt it? Not sure if you have played 0.7 so here you go. You have 30 flares that you can drop one by one or just hold the "X" key if you wanna drop multiple. After your dry, you have to wait 30 or 60 sec (can remember) untill you get 30 new flares. So if someone attacks you in those 30/60 seconds you will have have about 0% of surviving.

AA missiles can take out any aircraft in one hit, but then they have to detonate when they are really close to the jet. So if you make a really hard turn or/and use your flares you actually have a good chance of surviving. Your jet will probably be f*cked up and start making the whiney "BEEEEEP" sound, but you can still get away.

However, this is BF2 and DICE. The solution, the way I see it, should be the least technical, fastest and most reliable without compromising how the game works.

    Proximity fuses for mods.

Yep, its too late to make this sorts of changes with Bf2, but if they would make missiles explode after hitting flares, i would be really happy.

I havent played that thing for a long time. But if they worked it out, its great, theyve been bending that BF2 engine very well.

Thats one of the best solutions for an arcadey BF2 aswell, along with ~30%~40% damage rates for proximity detonation and ~51~<90% direct detonation (main goal- shoot many missiles to hit proxi, shoot 2 to kill) with a reliable defense mechanism of flares. Im not a fan of semi-shooting flares though. A barrage of flares that gives you one extra shot at survival for 30 seconds would be a good tradeoff. They are not really counters for missiles and shouldnt be. Skill is more important, as its a PvP game.

My "dream" missile solution is still the skill based system where you keep the target in the "lock cone" all the way until the missile hits home. If the jet breaks your lock, the missile goes dud. Would work using the same method LGMs in vBF2 work.

Yup, they have done an amaizing work

Yeah it should work pretty well for Bf2 aswell.

Meh, i'd rather like to use flares to prevent the enemy guy from getting a lock on, instead of actually diverting the missile. Atleast in PR where missiles have such nasty hit rate. With 30 flares you can buy yourself some time to GTFO, but if the other guy manages to folow you you will be 100% skreved when your out of flares.

Not sure what you mean by that.. Flares are there to counter missiles.

Think of it this way, in BF2 the real counter to missiles is breaking the lock, not shooting 5 flares and hope that the missile wont pick you up. Real counter is a combination of evasive maneuvers and flares are there to buy you a shot, a safe zone. A counter is something that you would be able to rely on, something that would neutralize the missile on its own.

A magazine of 15+ flares will give that one reliable moment of safety, while still demanding the skill needed to lose the lock. POE2 uses the concept of fast reloading flares and shots in semi-auto fashion. Flying in front of a jet for 15 seconds, dispensing flares one pop at a time, isnt that great of an idea in practice.

However, I dont have a problem with choppers running 30 flares in semi or full batch optional mode.

Missiles at distance, cannons at close. Skill prevails.
