Best maps for sniping I.M.O.
Crash
Crossfire
Ambush
Bog
Bloc
Pipeline
I always pick a Team Deathmatch server with a minimum of 40 players.
When it is this busy there seems to be a stalemate with no team advancing. This is great for sniping as you don't have to move too much away from your favourite spots. Seems to work well for me anyway - 30 more headshots required to complete all 5 sniper headshot challenges. I was never one for sniping too much in the Battlefield series but I must admit it has been good fun in COD4 - I think it's the blood splatting on the wall that adds to it :nod:Comment

wet work is the best, i got a 30-something kill streak on a 25 player server head-shotting other snipers and random enemies, just make sure they don't see you and your set on that map.
bog, Personally don't know how anyone can do anything on that map, way too much spam imo.
cross fire can be good provided the other team doesn't have more snipers then yours otherwise it becomes more complicated =)Comment

The best maps i prefer to snipe on are crossfire and strike. I'll post some pics of the sniper locations that i use to rack up k/d of like 30-5. The only reason i died was airstrike, chopper, and on occasion a UAV gets put up and they barely see me.
But here is the ironic part, i take a shadowed area in a corner where it is wide open to the other side, but people usually think that it would be dumb because its wide open...but no, i still go there and i snipe all of them down.....finished something like 49-10 sniping from 1 of the most wide-opened, viewed spots on Strike...
Once again, i'll post a picture of these spots on Strike and Crossfire.Comment

I got all the headshots for pretty much all the sniper rifles by camping the same spot all the time on the same map and killing the ppl using the mounted MG the minute they pressed "Use".
All I had to do was click a button because the crosshairs were on the spot where the head would be.
The spot im talking about is on the Backlot map, USMC spawn, to the left of the spawn is a building that has a stairscase going up to a door (Ppl sometimes use the top of that staircase to camp around there).
Above the staircase, there's a small "room" with a fence in front of it. You can jump up there and pull yourself over the fence when you are halfway up the stairs.
From there, you have aperfect view of the MG in the ruined building (Not the contruction site) and kill everyone who uses it with whatever rifle you use with a headshot.
Helps when you hav a server with KC off, but most of the time, ppl on the KC expect you to be on the roof of the small shack like structure int he center of the map and you can snipe them when they come looking for you.Comment

I'm too a "casual sniper".
What i can reccomend is aiming for the head if you can. Even on SC, w/out stopping power, you can kill them. I've just played a round in Crash, and i've got neat Hs with the M21 w/out sp.
If your goal are shooter challenges, ie, no Headshot ones, go for hardcore, and you'll get them rather easier and faster than on softcore.
If you go for Hs, you can play on both modes, if you aim for the head they will fall as fast as on hc. :)
My "sniper-rig" as of now is:
M21
M4/ACOG
Bandollier
Overkill
Iron Lungs
This way i can contribute more to the team, in a sniper/gun and run role. I'm surprised how well the M4 with ACOG performed on SC, w/out stopping power... And the M21 is one shot-one kill in the head, maybe not if they have last stand/or juggernaut.
Hope it helps.Comment

One big thing in headshots, is actually during "sniper vs sniper"
The first person to hesitate and panic and begin to look for a quick spot to duck will die first 95% of the time. So don't panic, but move in quick for that headshot.
Also when you are getting somewhere, make sure you are able to crouch, prone, and stand in that spot, because if you see someone aiming for you and you can't pull up your zooms, and you can't prone/crouch, your in deep sh**.
Keep in mind variable wind speeds and humidity, also take the Coriolis Effect into account
Keep in mind that when ever you pull crosshairs up, always remember the location of the head on crouch, proned, or standing....after a while of playing you eventually know exactly where to hit.
I suggest to use the R700 (i think thats the name...its the 4th one) and the Barrett. 50 (THATS MY OPINION, I OWN WITH THOSE)
If you are hunting down someone, as in your far away like...ALL the way down the street and he runs sideways, you may not always get that headshot you want, so just hit the body if possible, and always be prepared for an easy headshot on last standers...oh baby
Perks i use are...umm..Bandolier, Deep Penetration, Stopping Power
^once you get the hang of headshots and simply being a beast at sniping you tend not to need the lungs perk.
One more thing before i end, practice in the single player game on levels for sniping...one of the first (Blackout i think) and remember that snipers usually hide behind something, so guess what...if you can shoot through that wall they hiding in....its all good..
but for a "stealth" sniper, use all those "stealthy perks"
and remember Mac's advice...and to keep from using the 2nd pistol, simply run behind the enemy if he is very near you and say "Oi, Suzy!"
***MY sniping spot video will come out soon, you may also laugh at the spots...but i got proof of them being goodComment

I never play as sniper, but I've been on many teams that have gotten pounded repeatedly by Airstrikes and Choppers called in over and over again by good snipers. Wetwork, Ambush, Pipeline, and Bog are the ones I notice it on the most.Comment

Added my opinions and advices to your post..One big thing in headshots, is actually during "sniper vs sniper"
The first person to hesitate and panic and begin to look for a quick spot to duck will die first 95% of the time. So don't panic, but move in quick for that headshot.
Good advice

Don't need to worry about those in MP, since distances are twize as short as in that mission
Keep in mind that when ever you pull crosshairs up, always remember the location of the head on crouch, proned, or standing....after a while of playing you eventually know exactly where to hit.
I suggest to use the R700 (i think thats the name...its the 4th one) and the Barrett. 50 (THATS MY OPINION, I OWN WITH THOSE)
R700 has only 4 bullets per mag. And .50 cal kicks like a mule. If you like to shoot fast and accurately, use M40. And with fast i don't mean clicking your fire button like h3ll and wish that some of the 10 rounds hit something. I mean "aim, hold breath, shoot, shoot (without holding breath) and kill the target." Most of the times you land both of those shots to your enemy.
If you are hunting down someone, as in your far away like...ALL the way down the street and he runs sideways, you may not always get that headshot you want, so just hit the body if possible, and always be prepared for an easy headshot on last standers...oh baby
It's easier to hit the body while they are strafing or running sideways
Perks i use are...umm..Bandolier, Deep Penetration, Stopping Power
^once you get the hang of headshots and simply being a beast at sniping you tend not to need the lungs perk.
Try without the iron lungs too, since if and when you "run out of air" it takes ages to be able to hold breath again. So try without it, and see how it works. Bandolier is a must for me atleast, i hate it when you have to run across the map looking for ammo.
One more thing before i end, practice in the single player game on levels for sniping...one of the first (Blackout i think) and remember that snipers usually hide behind something, so guess what...if you can shoot through that wall they hiding in....its all good..
IMO, forget the SP, all the headshots you make in SP doesn't count towards the challenges...
Besides AI doesn't act like human player. So best thing to do is go MP from the gekko
but for a "stealth" sniper, use all those "stealthy perks"
UAV Jammer does wonders. 3rd slot, Dead silence or Iron Lungs, what ever you prefer.
and remember Mac's advice...and to keep from using the 2nd pistol, simply run behind the enemy if he is very near you and say "Oi, Suzy!"
Pistol is a life savior. Lot of times you get spotted by someone else when you run for the knife kill. But if the enemy runs basically over you, then use knife
***MY sniping spot video will come out soon, you may also laugh at the spots...but i got proof of them being good
And Minmaster forget the steady aim at sniper kits. Doesn't do you any good.

Oh, i understood the message bit wrong then...
But i think holding the breath is bit obvious when talking about sniping, so i don't think it needs to be mentioned nessecarily...Comment
-
yea but he mentioned he doesn't need iron lungs. for me, i always run out of steady time even using iron lungs, so i was maybe thinking he doesn't even hold breath and has mastered the control of scope sway.
btw, i scored a whole bunch of headshots using ACOG'd semi-auto sniper rifle in FFA shipment servers. it's way faster than doing it the traditional way, although i haven't tested it with bolt action rifles which i imagine will be much harder. just in 1 full round of play, i netted over 30 headshots, lol!Comment

I may have worded myself wrong, i do not use the lungs perk only because i found a better way to hold your breath by pressing shift...
first off, you turn off sticky keys, and instead of just holding the breath, press and let go of shift -> press and let go of shift again, this way....i believe saves more breath...but not as much...and once you get good at sniping, you don't need to use iron lungs all that often...you just got to practice on quick powerful kills to the head...
Pretty much...JUST PRACTICE
and minmaster, no i don't use lungs perk if i didn't make it clear from above..and no i did not master the sniper sway...but once i do..that would be wicked sickComment
