tips for sniper headshots

ok, i completed all the marksman challenge except for sniper rifles. this is going to be quite a task if i get it done because i'm only a casual sniper. any tips on getting those headshots faster would be appreciated. for example, preference for map, game mode, server size, etc. and why would be appreciated. thanks.

TDM HC cargo ship (aka wet work) is a pretty good sniper map with about 30-40ppl in the server.

Use iron lung, and actually wait a few seconds. Also, the M21 is great for multiple shots into a small area, it has less (visible from hat I see) recoil than the others.

I'm not much of a sniper myself, but I find bog nets lots of kills.

Crossfire is a pretty good map for raking headshots, you will always get people in either of the opposite buildings in the street.

Hardcore is always going to be the best! .

i second the wetwork map, that map was made for headshotting snipers. gun specific tips are not as important because i need to fulfill the marksman challenge for all the sniper rifles.

Focus on one sniper rifle at a time, dont jump around a lot.

There are many good sniper maps, but all require something a little different to sniping in them, so practice and find your niche.

Hardcore or Softcore, headshots kill with one shot.

Try to use servers with killcam off. Otherwise, move around a lot.

UAV jammer is nice, but if you are just starting out and want that extra protection, use Overkill instead.

Good maps I like to snipe on:
Overgrown
Crossfire
Strike
Ambush
Backlot
Block

Good maps I like to snipe on after practicing and getting used to sniping:
Wetworks
Bog
Pipeline
Countdown

I find if you have about 10 people or more, you will have plenty to snipe at. You dont want too many because they can hunt you down when you shoot or there gets to be a lot of counter snipers.

how about this: would the ACOG'd sniper rifle come in handy in certain situations?

IMO you have better change with the normal scope...

I have used the Acog on sniper only once, for one round. Then i changed it...

I like to go on huge servers(32+). That usually net's lot of headshots. Mostly because it's more of an target rich enviroment...

Play on hardcore servers so you can get 1 shot kills with a semi auto and can use a better perk than +damage for bolt action.

I for one never play on hardcore servers when sniping. That way you won't be killed by someone with a SMG on the other side of the map. (and you have a better chance of killing people close by)

But then again, I'm a pretty mobile sniper.

Generally I play with Steady Aim in the last perk so I can noscope, but if you want to make headshots the whole time get Iron Lungs.

ACOG is not very efficient if you want to use the sniper rifles for what they're made for

I like the R700 the most but they're all pretty equal in terms of accuracy.

IMO Strike is by far the best map for sniping. Crossfire & Wetworks are both good but often just end up as counter-sniping duels (especially Wetworks)

Bloc & Overgrown can also be good but every1 plays as sniper lol

I'd also avoid HC servers as it's a OHK with any weapon - if your a decent sniper you're only headshotting so you don't need/want to play HC

As far as actually shooting.... Get a feel for leading targets moving across the screen. It's actually quite alot when they're sprinting at distance

For me there's nothing for satisfying in COD than nailing a leading headshot

I went onto a killcam server, shot one guy, then moved to a spot overlooking my old spot. Sure enough, there he went after respawning. Shot him, moved to a place overlooking my last place, he came back. Got 6 kills from one guy before he figured it out =P
