    Buy HL1?

After finally buying Orange Box about a month ago; I was about to play HL2 today, but I having never played a HL game was thinking that it might be better to start off playing the prequel.

So, do you think it would be better to play through HL1 first then start on HL2?

If your serious about wanting to follow the story line, then go for it. Although, it would have to be damn cheap to justify me buying it.

If you want to know the whole story behind the game then yes theres 2 expansion packs for half-life 1 (opposing fronts, blue shift)

Yeah, but if you look at the graphics, you'd sigh.

          I skipped HL1. It wasn't *that* confusing.
Then, after I finished EP2 I looked up the synopsis on wikipedia.

You should buy it,it's worth the $15(I think,if not lower.) The storyline is phenomenal, plus all of the mods you can get with it.

Its not a prequel, its the original game.

I actually considered this a while back as well. Would you reccomend getting the Source version or the original?

I would say the original, the source version isn't that different and I would only get it if you cared about the 'ragdoll' effect as it is one of the only notable differences but there are a few more.

Also you can get the Half-Life 1 Antology which includes Half-Life, Half-Life: Blue Shift, Opposing Force and Team Fortress Classic for only $15.

And yes I did buy the Anthology.

I got HL1 for £2 at a school fete a couple of years ago. Volunteering to run the books, DVDs and games stand has to have some perks.

I'd say get it. I might think about it as well. Seeing I was like 11 or 12 when I played HL1 I never got past Blast pit with that huge thing with the giant claws. I remember something about electricity and water and me moving boxes then getting stuck for ever! haha.

It would be nice to go back and play it again, or have a day or two where you play all of them, oldest to newest to really get the story, that would be cool to do with some friends. I love the Half life story though, it's so good.

I'm guessing 5 weeks after the original post he's already made up his mind.
