Isn't it stupid to discuss something that has been discussed zillion times already? Joystick vs m&kb omg :)

I (and other players I play with) consider myself pretty good pilot at least for pubs and I can tell you that joystick is a must, much easier to fly :) Of course, you must still learn, practice and your skill will rise with experience

LMAO oook....it seems this thread lost its way...the original topic was just me asking for tips to become a better pilot..so no this is not a debate thread questioning which is better out of the two..and if it was ANY idiot could end any debate by just stating that none are better than the other..it just depends what suites u better.. so maybe stop the imature arguing and just use what u think is best?.. anyway like i said i have hooked my xbox control up to my pc and for me it works a treat so thanks heaps for ur help and input :)

You buy a bad joystick, its like buying a bad condom. It breaks. So plan your purchase carefully.

Alternatively, if its your first joystick, and it happens to be a Logitech one, it will break in less than 6 months through use. Not because the stick sucks, but because youre "using it wrong" by applying pressure in an "unusual way".

Your second stick will last you years, unless its a defective product :P

Generally, 2 specific sticks have popped up in debates and arguments.

"Saitek Cyborg Evo"
"Logitech Extreme 3D Pro"

Ive used "Logitech Attack 3" and "Logitech Extreme 3D Pro" and if youre going to buy once, I suggest 3D Pro. If youre even a little confident, and the stick hasnt broken in a few weeks of use, you can do what I did- change the spring. Changing the spring has 2 benefits and one problem. One, it will make it easier for your hand to use it, as default springs are pretty god damn stiff. Two, your reaction times and overall maneuvering capabilities, aswell as your comfort will increase. The problem is, obviously your warranty expires. I changed my spring, my JS is almost 2 years old, and it doesnt even have de-calibration issues. But... its my second stick, so my hands are adjusted to it and Im obviously "using it right". I got a cheap "Wal Mart" 9.99 $ airsoft pistol and cut used 1/3 of the spring of that pistol.

As for when I started with Attack 3, hahaha, it was horrible. I taped my stick to the desk. :laugh:

you mean that rubber thing right?hahaah with my first JS i completely cut it and threw away and couldnt find anything to replace so joystick gave me 2 chances everytime i made a move:go to heaven with a big stall or go to hell with a loud crash...so i placed an old hats pieces there-wool- it did fine for few months than i skipped to KBanyway:laugh:

I use the KB only, its pretty easy, it lets me turn hard and stuff, very good for evading, before you buy it, arrange your key config for this

Up arrow: Rudder Down/Up (I forget which makes you look down)
Down arrow: Rudder Down/Up (I forget which makes you look up)
Left arrow: Rudder Left
Right Arrow: Rudder Right
W Key: Thrust +
S Key: Thrust -
CTRL Key: Release Rocket
Numpad 0: Release Bomb

Thats how I fly, I consider myself a good pilot, I'v been able to take down J-10s, and im a killer pilot in Project Reality (I'v shot down like 3 A-10's and 1 F-16 on Kashan Desert)

Its also very usefull for flying helicopters.

Naw man, the rubber thingy can be considered a good thing, this way the dust and crap wont get in. Im talking about the counter-spring inside the stick. Its about an inch long and very, very stiff. You need to dismantle the stick in order to get it.

I kept mine.Although its cut in order to get it off. But changing the spring was a great move. I suspect this alone might be the most responsible for the little wear the potentiometres have gone though. I dont even have to set deadzones because my JS isnt decalibrated to any sides. Or if I do, I set them to 3%.

i actually say this because i would probably suck at trying to change it am jealous:p

Its easy to change it. The benefits are pretty obvious

-You are able to move your stick around faster, with minimum resistance
-The physical pressure and wear on the stick is reduced thus prolonguing its lifetime significantly
-Your hands wont hurt after a longer game because theres no pressure or counterforce on your wrists
-Its overall a hell of a lot more comfortable

Plus changing it is easy and simple. Just get a screwdriver.

I already suggested what spring to use as you can find it in pretty much anywhere, but if you have one of your own, you should try experimenting with its size so that in the end, youre comfortable with the counterforce.

Mine is pretty loose. The spring is stiff enough to push the JS to its center, but any nudge will send it moving.
