There are tonnes of videos around showing how more experienced pilots fly, including the one in my sig.
*shamless plug"
My tips:
- Get a joystick (Logitech Extreme 3D Pro is the one I suggest)
- Get used to using the different views.
Once you start using the 3rd person and "Over the shoulder" views you can time you're flares so that they're more effective. There's no point dropping your flares when there are no missiles coming you're way, and if you use the different views you can see when those missiles are near to hitting you..Comment

i will arrange a fight with a good joystick pilot for you and you will fight him with KB..up for it?i want to get you realize why i said thatOriginally posted by Metal Knightpersonally for me i've not noticed a disadvantage to both - i have tried both, but i prefer keyboard and mouse, maybe its just me - but i do just as well in either.

To the OP: Don't listen to people trying to get you to practice in jets with a keyboard in a mouse. It's like me telling you to use your feet when your in a tank. Maybe after a few thousand hours of feet-usage you'll be good, to an extent, but people who use their hands will very likely be better than you.
The same applies here. Mouse + keyboard is alike to the slow, pointless practice of using your feet, joystick is the easy, quick and ultimately better way of flying in BF2.Comment

A little extreme, but probably the best way to explain it.Originally posted by TsovehrTo the OP: Don't listen to people trying to get you to practice in jets with a keyboard in a mouse. Now, can we stop the whole KB/Joystick debate?Comment

lol im not amazing at piloting, so that person could very well be better than me, i just personally (key word) prefer to play with KB, but everyone can make their own minds up, i wont tell them what to do heh.Originally posted by _S3rH3nD_i will arrange a fight with a good joystick pilot for you and you will fight him with KB..up for it?i want to get you realize why i said that

the thing is..its not my OWN idea...its what i HAVE EXPERIENCED..there are limits of your hands and keyboard..to beat the best JS guy you need to use 10 fingers that are %10 of your current fingers so you can do some moves fast enough plus it shouldnt give you an error because you use more than 5 buttons at the same time...b4 you get used to KB go buy JS..logitech extreme 3d is 15 bucks on EBAYComment

Ive gone through every peripheral device combination, bar gamepads. Yeah, sure... you think youre fine and you will be fine. But once you start taking flying a tad more seriously, joystick offers you benefits (in gameplay, fun, enjoyement and ease of use) you wouldnt have dreamed to have.
There are numerous pilots I know who swear to their girlfriends knickers, that joystick was a gods gift.Comment

You buy a bad joystick, its like buying a bad condom. It breaks. So plan your purchase carefully.
Alternatively, if its your first joystick, and it happens to be a Logitech one, it will break in less than 6 months through use. Not because the stick sucks, but because youre "using it wrong" by applying pressure in an "unusual way".
Your second stick will last you years, unless its a defective product :PComment
