So did you get your single purple heart on purpose? or was it an accident back from near when you created you soldier? -

I got it on purpose. Iwas having a hard time getting it normally so I drove an FAV into the lake on Suez 15 times. It is also why my death streak is 15. On hindsight, it might have been a bad idea.Comment

wow congrats man, that's definitely what i see as the hardest award to get. i wasn't gonna go for it but after hearing you got it, i might try for it, although it seems like it drove you crazy trying to get it. i'm still 6-7 hrs short on the 50 hrs in AA though. for now i'm trying to get the armor medal, i'm very close to it.
btw, when you switched to the 2nd seat in the walker, nobody jumped in?Comment

I was lucky. The round I got my gold badge in, only one person jumped in. I asked him politely if he could get out because I was going for my Gold AA Badge, and he did. No one else bothered me. =] I think I got somewhere close to 50 kills with that round.wow congrats man, that's definitely what i see as the hardest award to get. i wasn't gonna go for it but after hearing you got it, i might try for it, although it seems like it drove you crazy trying to get it. i'm still 6-7 hrs short on the 50 hrs in AA though. for now i'm trying to get the armor medal, i'm very close to it.

I tried for my badge mainly on two servers. Both had 20 / 32 slots filled, so it looks like that's a good number of players. Not too many to be overwhelmed, but not too few that you can't get enough kills. I was also lucky because I stumbled across I think the only server where I don't experience ANY lag at all (the AA was almost an instant kill whereas in most servers, I can pound on them forever and sometimes not be able to kill them with the AA gun).
Earlier, people definitely did jump in every so often (usually after I had gotten 10-15 kills), and I would end up dying a couple seconds later (it was especially annoying when they jumped into the second seat when I had like 27 kills, and even when I got out so that they would pilot, they just stayed in the second seat and got orbital striked a couple seconds later).
I think with a pilot that knows what he's doing and with whom you can communicate, this badge should be a cinch (random public servers work best as those people have no clue what they are doing and tend to use Assault even when being absolutely owned by a walker). I tried several times to just let someone else pilot, but it's impossible aiming that AA gun with a moving walker. Random pilots also generally die within a minute (even Brigadier Generals).
It's just another one of those badges that really depends on the conditions (having no motion mines to worry about the entire round helps a lot). Seat switching is a pain, but I have specially mapped keys to make it very, very quick and painless.
If you need any help, when you get enough hours, I might be able to help you out by driving and letting you shoot. No promises on how successful it'll be, though.Comment

you did exactly what ea wants you to do. Keep playing the game till you get every award. It's how they keep people from getting bored of a game too quickly. Stroke the gamers ego by providing nice hard trophys to collect.
Other than that, gratz. Hope it was worth the hours.Comment

good story, another reason why we need a "lock vehicle" option for battlefield games. nothings worse when some noob enters your vehicle when you're mowing down people and decides to get both killed. i can't imagine how crazy it would've driven me if some dweeb entered the walker when i had 27 kills, i would have gone nuts and probably broke my mouse.Comment

Well, it doesn't actually benefit EA all that much to keep you playing the game. Sure, it means they have a bigger player base so that new players can still get the game a year later and not feel bored, but after they've made the sale, it doesn't matter how long you play the game for.you did exactly what ea wants you to do. It has nothing to do with ego. It's about a person with a goal-oriented personality. I like the feeling when I'm playing a game that I'm working towards something, even if it's not always worthwhile.
There are also genuine things about BF2142 that I've found will never be replaced by another game (I've tried CoD4 which also has an awards and unlocks system, and I'm not nearly as interested in playing that game. I've even tried BF2 which has nearly the same awards system and gameplay, and it's not the same). I think BF2142 may be my first major FPS and also my last (unless BF3 comes out).
I paid $22 for this game when it came out, and I certainly feel like I've got my money's worth as far as entertainment goes. =PComment

Maybe later. =P I started a new soldier to retrain myself in Infantry combat. I think I'm almost worse now than I was when I started playing BF2142. My new soldier only uses the Baur on single-shot. =P I'll get back to this soldier once I feel like I'm up to par with my old-self again.
It doesn't help that my university traffic shapes, and although they mostly fixed my problems with BF2142, I can still feel that tiny bit a lag where at least half my bullets don't actually hit.Comment
