I have noticed that Cod4 attracts alot of adults, and I am curious to know what draws you to Gaming. I think it is amusing to see older people using gamer slang and other stuff like that...So I ask, how early did you start playing the COD series and what draws you to Gaming. I just find it wierd being that I am 16 and encountering adults all the time

The ability to simulate and do things that would be impossible or infeasible in real life.

Same reason why you do anything that makes use of your imagination.

I know you may think I am crazy when I say this, BUT, the largest majority of PC gamers are in their 30s.

Why? Because the gaming industry started, and really took off, back in the day the 30 year olds wer in their teens. Now they have grown up and they still love to game.

I like to game just as Alex stated, it makes your imagination go into overdrive. I STILL compare games to Doom and Quake 1 and think how well the graphics and ideas have improved, and I love that.

Just the other day I had my wife come over so I could show her the fish in the ocean when I was swimming around in Crysis. AND, the fish swam away from me when I got close.

Throw in buddies, tactics, killing people without going to jail, what more could you want?

Played CoD1 and not online. I got sucked into the Battlefield games and love them (not loved, love) ever since. Went to CoD4 because I had enough 2142 and wanted something a bit different. When BF3 comes out, I will probably be back and may go between them and CoDs of the future.

So, anyway, adults play for the same reason kids do because if you look at it right, we never truely grow up.

Serious console/gaming started with the NES, and our generation is growing up. We're all still gamers, and I don't see most of us stopping anytime soon, so expect to see a larger number of older adults playing games alongside the younger crowd.

I've been a gamer since the mid-1970s and I'm simply a little older now. I've served in the military and developed a passion for things of a military nature.

There is a similarity to hunting, too. I think that "shooters" help to meet a primal need to hunt.

FPS games allow me to "shoot" daily for not much expense. It's safe and something I do at home surrounded by family while I interact with my friends. Not many hobbies allow for that.

What really set's my "boat to a-rockin" is when there is teamwork in-game. BF2, BF2142 and TF2 are great teamwork games and very fun, too.

Lastly, FPS gaming is sublime escapism. I 'become' my toon and live vicariously through him and share his experiences. It's like living in a motion picture and many war games in particular do this very well.

A lot of adults were attracted to FPS gaming when Medal of Honor:Allied Assault came out for PC (largely due to the popularity of "Saving Private Ryan"). People interested in WWII tend to be a bit older, both from seeing movies and hearing stories about it from relatives who lived it.

Many of them stayed with that series through MOH:Spearhead, and also began playing the COD series (COD, COD:UO, COD2)...(and other WWII-based shooters, in smaller numbers). When COD4 made the move to modern, many of them stuck around and gave it a try. Of the ones in my group, and our "cousin" clans, the vast majority are loving it.

I started with doom,than wolfenstein 3d,wolfenstein enemy territory,cod ,cod uo,cod2 ,bf2,poe2 and now cod4.I wish they could make poe2 with cod4 graphics.

i'm a big fan of seeing older gamers playing, they bring a mature aspect to the game. I've played with people over 25 and i have to say, they are great for teamwork and make games a lot more fun

Time and again, I believe games were originally intended for 20 year olds and up, then started to dilute into teens like us.

So, I say the "oldies" have more of a nature to play compared to us.

On Topic: I'm 17 so therefore not yet truly considered to be an adult but I'll put my opinion in anyways. The main reason I play games (particularly FPS's) is that I consider myself (somewhat vainly) quite good at them. If I sucked I wouldn't play, I get enjoyment out of trouncing the other side.

Older guys are much more fun to game with, the vast majority of people my age are either totally retarded and suck at the game or are just not interested in teamwork at all (they'd rather smacktalk). This is why I game with older guys, they actually want to work together!

As you can see, most of us grew up gaming. It's in our blood. Did you think at some point as you got older you'd just wake up one day and not want to play anymore? Your tastes will change, you'll get busy with other things like work and family, but given the choice between spending an hour or two at the end of the day watching TV, or playing a game, there's no question.

I have a 61" TV but no cable TV or satellite. I bought it purely for gaming. My non-gamer friends think I'm crazy. My gamer friends understand completely.

In regard to gamer lingo and culture. While you see us use words like pwned and what not, there is a certain amount of tongue-in-cheek that doesn't come across in a forum post. It's very easy to see with voice chat though. Where a younger gamer might be rather fanatical and emphatic in his phraseology. "I SO pwned you dude!" Older gamers use it more as an inside joke.

Also try to understand that there is a segment of adult gamers who REALLY don't like playing with "kids" on the same server. The later they got into gaming, the worse this seems to be. There's a guy at my office for whom, the 360 was his first gaming experience. He canceled his Live subscription after the first month because he couldn't stand losing to 9yr olds, let alone having to listen to them.

I tend to be of the opinion that if you're polite and act like an adult, I'll treat you like one.
