I played this game since it came out, and played until BF2142 came out, but I also stopped because the grenade spamming, bunny hopping and general noobness was just getting stupid.
I suppose your thinking, "What a weird title and opening paragraph", but let me explain. Battlefield 2 was everything a multiplayer game should be.
Since 2142 (which I also stopped playing), there have been hugely hyped games like Crysis and COD4, but they are nowhere near as good as BF2. I cannot describe why. COD4 seems better. It has better graphics and a better unlock system etc. And this is the bit I dont know why, but it got boring after a few weeks. And Crysis multiplayer just sucked right form the start.
Battlefield 2, just didnt. It just never got boring. The size of the maps, the layout, the pace, the game-mode. It may not have amazing graphics or physics. It may not have a buddy system. But what it does have is the uncontrollable urge to just keep on playing. And playing. And playing. Something no other game so far has achieved for me.
I loved the sniping. The depth of it all. In COD4, its so fast paced because the maps are so small that sniping doesnt play a big role. You cant get on top a huge building or crane like you could in BF2 and lay there for the entire round and get 24-0 kill death ratio. Likewise, you could run in with a M16, or drive in with a tank, or fly in with a helecopter, all resulting in completely different experiances. No other game so far has combined these in such a spectacular way.
The maps are the best thus far. The detail. The size. The layout. The depth. Everything just makes the maps amazing. 'Nuff said.
Thanks for reading. Dissagree if you want, this is only my opinion
