Why do I suck so bad as a Sniper?

    Title says it all really.

I just seem to have an absolutely perfect shot, be it through the glass of a helicopter or on a stationary player, and always miss. It's not even a connection problem, as if there is no movement at all involved that isn't taken into account, right?

Guess I should just stick with medic. *grumble*

    Practice, practice.

I suggest Wake Island and l96 sniper
.50 cal only when you can get a feel of sniping.

Aim crosshairs a pixel or two higher than the actual target.

Now, here's my question: why do I suck so bad as a tanker?

I mean really, I can't survive half a minute in a tank I always get blow up by infantry or by jets or by something else. I've seen people tank whore for the whole round.

Keep moving. Always vary your routes, be predictable and they'll know where to find you. Try not to stay stationary for too long and try to avoid capping flags unless absolutely neccesary....that's when you become a juicy target. Fast turrent rotation and use the alternative camera views (especially the rearward looking one....front case cam?) so you can see what's going on around you. Shot any suspicious hiding spots where AT or Spec-Ops guys may be lurking, shell's splash damage usually weeds them out. Against good sky jockeys you usually don't have much of a chance, but with pratice you can shoot choppers out of the sky....which is very satisfying.

I used to suck too in a tank, but practice and the above I'd say I'm now an average tanker....killing more than dying.

Yeah if you get good enough the tank can be the most effective way to take out a good chopper pilot. No warning tone and a one shot kill. That's why it is always good to stay high or use cover with a chopper. Anything in between for an extended period of time puts you at risk to all kinds of ground fire.

see thats probably not his problem, he probably cant hit a target thats a lil to far away, you have to know how to lead and stuff but yea, even sneaking takes skill :p

There's not a whole lot you can do against air threats on certain maps. Wake, for example. It'll take most pilots a couple of bombing runs to take you out, but you can't fight back, and there's really nowhere to hide. For choppers you can be picked off by TV missiles well beyond your own conceivable range. On a map like Kubra, where there is actually some terrain to take cover around it becomes easier. Not easy mind you, but easier. However, a skilled chopper pilot will always beat a skilled tank driver, simply based on the usefulness of the vehicles. Choppers can strike from ranges and angles that are impossible for the tank driver to counter, and choppers can go over any terrain at speeds much higher than a tank. If you find tank drivers staying alive for a whole round, chances are his team has all the good pilots.

search these forums for something like "truth about bf2 aiming reticle" or similar.. that should help you with an idea of how to aim properly with the cross hairs.. hit up youtube or similar and search thru bf2 sniping videos thatll help you get an idea of better ways to snipe distant targets and moving targets along with the vehicle problem you mentioned.

Was a pretty damn effective derail by the looks of things.

Anyway, I always use the stock weapons for sniping. The Dragonovs crosshair is way off, but you can fire so fast it doesnt matter, and its the same story with that chinese one. I think that the M24 has the crosshair actually where it should be, unlike all the other weapons, though I cant be sure. The L9 is good I suppose but its fun to change your tactics with the different rifles.

All sniper rifles are pretty good, I seem to hit easier with L96 but it's mainly a question of preference. Don't try to snipe from one shore at Wake to the other if you're not a pro, you'll just get disappointed that you can't hit ****. (me)

Aim a fair bit infront of where you feel you shoot aim and you will hit. As simple as that.

Same goes with shooting people running sidewards from a distance on infrantry only.

You got to keep in mind bullet drop and leading when shooting at moving targets.

just play the kit constantly. I haven't played any other kit for the past few months and I have been making shots so good, that I get accused of hacking on a daily basis. Like M3ow said PRACTICE

When sniping at 150+ meters, you have to compensate for bullet drop
