who knows? but i don't really care for TF2, i bought the game after all the hype i heard around the net and i really don't see what the big deal is. it is nothing special imo, and the only thing i found good about the game was it ran pretty smooth and was much more a stable game than BF. but gameplay wise, i don't see how it is such a fun game and all. i found the game to be too simple in both gameplay and graphics and it lacked realism that i appreciate in fps games.

        OMG

I never said it would be bad. I just made note of the fact that they have a similar design.

I DID NOT say it would be bad because of that.

I'd argue that TF2 wasn't really the originator of the concept - Warcraft and WoW have some of the earliest examples of highly caricatured characters, and I am sure that there are even older games that did something similar.

Frankly, I'm quite happy to see designers use simpler graphics (more performance, wider accessibility) and spend more time on gameplay.

Its not unlikely that DICE got the cell shading idea from TF2, but I think most games draw inspiration from their predecessors.

Wiki has a long list of cell-shaded games: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...ed_video_games
TF2 nor BFH are Cel-Shaded games, they use simplified textures. Cel-Shading is a special rendering technique that neither game uses.

Also the example list is wrong about TF2 in Wiki and Wikipedia should never be 100% trusted as absolute truth. I will say that using simplified textures does resemble Cel-Shading, but it still isn't Cel-Shading. See XIII or Viewtiful Joe series for a true example of Cel-Shading.

Also, for the subject of this thread (can't forget that :)) they do not share style. They do share designs by choosing to using simplified textures, warped autonomy of the Character models, and challenging the trend of photo realistic, but other than that they share nothing more than both being a multiplayer video game.

I read that Heroes had been an idea with that style since the days of 1942?
So I dont think they copied. lol

TPCG: Are you worried about the inevitable comparisons to Team Fortress 2?

BC: I’m not going to put any bones about it, if you’re making a cartoony shooter game then people are going to compare you to TF2. But the genesis of the idea for the game came around the BF1942 era. When we were working on Battlefield 1942 the guy who’s now the studio creative director, Lars Gustavsson, had this idea for a toon Battlefield, a game which didn’t worry about historical accuracy and was all about fun. So we’d kind of had this idea on the back-burner for a while and we decided to do it with this game.

                      ^^
                      WTF?

Seoul, what you just said makes no sense and is not at all funny. Mat quoted somebody saying that they had the concept for this when they were making 1942. That is pretty obvious from the screenshots and trailer that have been released. The answer to your question : BF1942 was made in 2002.

way to revive a dead thread guys.

                        :p

but seriously, I think we have all agreed that TF2 and BF:Heroes have a similar character design, and that is as far as the similarities go, and furthermore, neither of those two games are original either!

                        End of discussion.
