ruining knife-only servers: good or bad?

The K/P servers violate the rules established by the game creator. If you want to have a ranked server you are supposed to be playing by EA's rules. The thing you claim (not playing by the local rules) is the very thing the server itself has already done.

I don't have very many knife kills but everyone has come in the course of actual battle against guys with guns who would have used them to kill me had they had the chance. For me that is the ONLY knife kill that means anything.

I have to wonder the person in need of psychotherapy isn't that person who enjoys bunny hopping around swipping a knife at someone (while hoards of others dance merrily around them doing the same) when they are in possession of a completely useable Voss or Clark. Just perspective....I guess.

Games ARE supposed to be fun... And if it was Fun (as opposed to Stats) that K/P Players were after, they would run an unranked server. Unranked is worlds cheaper than ranked, and you can do whatever you want to without limits. This fact leads me to believe that it is not fun they are after, but Stats.

At this point, worrying about who is stat padding and who isn't, in my opnion is moot. It's not like becoming the #1 guy does anything. It's not like there's a cash prize or a contract awarded or anything like that. I know it's against the rules and all, but if a bunch of 12 year olds want to get together to artificially raise their ranks, screw it. They'll get a feeling of accomplishment. It's just like hackers. They can't be reasoned with.

I used to be uptight about stat padders in BF2 and BF2142 but now I just worry about my clan's server and ban stat padders on my own server.

The ones that need to worry now are game server providers. EA is now delisting primary IP's of servers that have knife or paddle in the server name. This is a big deal because it's being done without notification to the companies and when the primary IP gets delisted, ALL BF2/BF2142 servers on that shared box are affected. The first clue that a game server provider gets is when a bunch of tickets come in saying that their server won't start and this hits them in the wallet, so they will be more proactive than the average player, suspending servers and in some cases, cancelling the servers without a refund.

K+P servers are fun, I've only been on them with my alternate soldier who I created specifically to go on K+P servers, and I do like to do it occaisionally for no other reason than to have fun. But I dont see anything wrong with going on them to have fun, and at the same time getting a few awards to rank up faster.

Ultimately K+P servers' creation was inevitable what with the stats system and the K and P awards and the dogtag fetish a lot of people have, so even if you close them down they'll just come back.

Just leave them alone, they aren't doing anything to you, I used to be a knife whore, just look at my collector pins, I had 63 kill streak with knife. I dont do it anymore, but it was fun, kiss my arse if you have a problem with it.

K/P Player has taken Supreme Commander for the third week in a row :cry: The Decay ranks would be alot more fun to get if everyone played Legit. Note that 2/3 of the Decay ranks are held by Stat Padders...

They don't hurt you in-game, but they do hurt any chances any normal people have at getting and holding a special rank.

And exactly how did you get your decay rank this week? You credit it to taking advantage of glitch in the game so you could get hoards of points to achieve the rank which is the same thing as playing on a kp server if you ask me.:p

A lot of people who get the game just go to the store to buy the game and in the manual along with the agreement you agree to when you install the game there's no clear way of knowing that there's anything wrong with those servers. Its not until later when they start becoming interested in the community will they find out that they're padding. Just because we don't find it interesting playing on kp servers others will still find it fun to be playing on them.

Well the good thing is anyone that has an EA Account or has every installed an EA Game on their machine has agreed to the TOS/EULA and ROC, whether they have read it or understood it is a different story.

So if they do run illegal servers they know they are doing it on purpose according to the agreement.

Yep...the KP server owners are usually the ones who are the most obsessed about stats and getting a lot of points.

what? no, somebody said k+p players only do it for the stats, and i said no I did it for fun.

I cant imagine why shotgun v knife would be fun, i'd imagine it would get boring after about 2 minutes but to each their own i suppose.

It was fun for several reasons.

1. I would have my knife out as some tool charged toward me thinking me to be easy prey. I'd switch to the Clark and BAM! I'd laugh knowing the owner of that digitial soldier was cursing up a blue streak....all the while looking at the counter. Funny.

2. With shotgun out I'd still get guy charging at me with nothing but a knife. Whacking idiots always amuses me.

3. The kills were just so easy.

4. Only 2 deaths to 38 kills. That's always fun.

In the end though, I found it to be cheap. So I've never returned. I understand the concept of "fun." I don't fault you for that. It's just that the game is designed for firearms and vehicles with the knife and pistol being a small fraction of the gameplay. K/P servers have turned that small fraction of gameplay into THE gameplay. EA has stated that they violate the rules. So, K/P server owners and players really have no leg to stand on. The only thing they can do is whine when whacked by the voss or clark....and get ready to do the same when they respawn.

i always get banned even before i can kill anyone. the first time i tried to kick the admin. and it turned out around the half of the players wanted to kick him to. idi***. i can't kick their a**es if i want to. and some of them seem to hack namehacks and other stuf. empty dogtags(saw a guy on a knife server and later on a normal server where i knifed him) and other stuff(one guy changed 3 times his name in the time the admins needed to bann me(around 30 seconds)

The response that we have always gotten from EACS is "If you get on a KP server, you will get wiped." While that's not always possible to enforce, they do end up wiping a lot of people that were "just checking it out."

So don't join ranked k/p servers!

Yes but the thing you have to understand about the EA rules are: no one cares, apart from those who dislike knife servers. They dont have a way of effectively dissuading people from going on knife servers, as the stat reset seems to happen to every 1 in 100 people who use them and just because EA says it is so, doesnt mean it is.

If someone likes a small part of the game above all others, so what? some people voss whore, some people only play recon, some people whore the gunship, i dont see how 'its a small fraction of the gameplay' isnt an argument against anything.
