    After 16 hours of gameplay...

I still havent figured quite out how to play COD in a specific gamemode such as Search and Destroy (my favourite).

Thing is, whatever I do, I feel like Im doing it wrong, so Im looking for specific tips of "engagement and gameplay psychology and priorities".

Im new to COD4 and Im enjoying it immensely, and there are things I can figure out on my own, but there are others that would take too much time, and interweb doesnt really have good videos to check either.

    Spill it, gents.

If you get beat hard, next game play as a spectator and watch what the guy that dominated does, look at the way he moves, shoots etc. and you might get the idea.

Also, learn the map to detail, it's imperative to know where to throw grenades at the start so you can take out an enemy member during the first 10-15 seconds of the match. This you can again learn by watching someone with more experience.

I've played for about 3 hours and i know that Strike is my best map. I know where people come from, where they hide and such.

Now to learn the other maps

Also i play Team Deathmatch a lot, coming from BF2

          You = owned.

Although the crouching is the right thing to do... never stop moving isn't.

The best strategy I have found in this game is to move/stop/check - move/stop/check - move/stop/check. Especially at the "chokepoints" There are some on every map.

And, camp if you need to. Especially if theres tons of guys around you, and they're all trying to kill you, because you've killed them once or twice, just stick your spot and let them come to you, and then run into your claymores, your C4, and your bullets. You also must change positions (even a slight change helps) and get in flanking positions.

The best thing to have though is good aim, and great reflexes, its the only way to deal with more than one enemy.

          My thoughts.:salute:

Look around you to make sure nobody is sneaking up on you. Especially at corners or doorways, if you come across somebody around the corner or in the building and there's somebody behind you, you're a dead man.

Don't walk in the middle of pathways (streets, alleys, hallways). Try to get on the side with less doors to where the enemy might be and the side where there is more cover.

Find a teammate or two and follow them. If the person is not playing smart (not checking before moving, doesn't lean, doesn't look around them, etc.), just ditch them. If the person is good, then they will most likely notice you and not just do their own thing.

              That's what I usually do...

Stick with your team mates. Even if they aren't going exactly the right way, you're safer in numbers.

Learn the maps and where the objectives are for each game type. Especially in S&D, since you play offense and defense in the same round, learn where people like to come from, camp, and then do something a little different.

In S&D, don't be afraid to go past one bomb site and circle around to the other via the the enemy spawn area. You'll often catch the defenders flat footed.

If you kill the bomb carrier, find a good spot to camp and let the rest of your team know where the bomb is. The attackers will come to you.

If someone is approaching the bomb site, either to plant, or defuse. Let them start before you open fire. The bomb case blocks most of there view and it takes them a while to get their weapon back out.

In Sabotage and S&D, the best time for an Air Strike is after your team has planted. Wait for the other team to get close and bomb the bomb site.

It's easier to play as a "scavenger" then a "rusher."

Once the bomb is planted, find a spot to defend that gives you more then one way to fall back if possible, don't hide in a corner. When a defender shows up, try to kill him if you can, if you don't, fall back a little. In most cases the defender will come after you rather then go for the defuse. Even if he kills you, you've kept him away from the bomb. If he goes for the defuse, follow my earlier advice. Had games where we still one with no one left alive because the defenders couldn't defuse in time.

Watch the map and get an idea of where the action is, then flank. Extreme Conditioning really helps here.

If you're taking fire, fall back, don't stick your head back out and try to get that last shot in. After you fall back, do it one more time. Often your opponent will come looking for you.

Never go after someone that's fallen back out of sight. You had the advantage when you fired on him unseen. If you didn't kill him and follow, you're handing the advantage back to him.

Accuracy > Damage in most cases.

In Domination, learn where to throw from to consistently land grenades around the center objective. Early on, this is crucial to keep rushers from the other team from taking an early lead.

Rush past the objective you start closest to. There is always someone else on the team that will take it in 9/10 cases. Head around to the objective closest to the enemy spawn. Don't try to take it, just harass enemies that are spawning there. If some of them peal off after you, that makes it easier for the rest of your team to take the center objective.

First of all, use Martyrdom. It's a great perk if you're new to the game as it allows you to get kills even when all you do is die. When your team doesn't profit from anything you do, at least they will profit from your death.
Once you have improved and adapted to the gameplay you may wanna drop Martyrdom, as good players usually don't die often enough for it to pay off.

For further tips, there's a sticky topic called Official Tips Thread! that can help you improve your overall gameplay. The game modes don't really differ that much. It always comes down to spotting your opponents and killing them before they kill you. When you're good at that, you'll do well in any game type. You have to find your own play style to achieve this.

Please don't look at this comment as a continuation of the arguments we had before. It's in my own interest to help you, as you may be a potential team mate on public servers.

I have 2 tips for you:

                      #1:
Use Stun Grenades! Flash is pure crap, because you can't see if you have hit someone. Stun gives you a nice ''hit detection'' mark, and then you're ready to move in for the kill. Be advised that Flashed and Stunned enemies can still shoot like mad men and might kill you!
When i mostly stun someone i simply jump in, so they shoot underneath me and then i knife them. Stun is also good to get some headshots as Flashed enemies might still jump up and down.
In the most of my kits, i have Stun x3 ready and it has proven to me that it's a mighty setup in CQC maps like Bloc ( which is my fav map ) and others.

Why Flash is crap...Ok, you threw a Flash, but did you hit the guy you just saw? Did you flashed all the enemies in the room? Maybe...maybe not. That's why i don't like Flash, you don't know if you hit someone. Also when the Flash effect is half gone, if you concentrate well enough and you remember the last screen you saw. Its'uselles

Also when you have unlocked the G3, put Stopping Power on it and join Hardcore servers. When i shoot it, it's always a one hit kill in chest and even the legs!!

You and I both know what the truth really is. And I can rightfully counteraccuse you of being my own stalker. And believe me, you wouldnt be the first one.

Nobody in their sane mind would recommend a perk that doesnt affect any of your offensive or survival chance/results. As such, I rate perks like Martydom and Last Stand, to be utterly useless, when I can use Doubletap or Juggernaut to actually stay alive and potentially do a lot more damage. Especially when I myself know how "often" Martydom really works.

If you want to give me tips, dont continue our argument, but give me genuine information I would need to know. Until that happens, please, ignore me, if you can.

Wolf, thanks for the reassurance that Im using Stuns for all the right reasons. I too really appreciate the "hit" mark. The whole "stunned" stage in COD4 is badly executed though.

Well, I hardly play S&D. But from I have played, running right towards the enemy in a match isn't a good idea. Flank them. Dead Silence is goo on these types of games, because the camping, people tend to hear more when there isn't as much action going on. Don't use your extreme close/long rang weapons. Get one with good distance and able to do cqc. The P90 is good, but people will call you a noob. G36c MP5 all also good. Silencers are your friend here. And DON'T use martyrdom. Half these servers have FF=on and if you kill some teammates after being sniped. Then they might be very angry at you.

Don't be paranoid now. The tips I gave are very valid for a new player. Of course using Martyrdom with FF on isn't a good idea.

potentially do a lot more damage
Potentially, yes. From the information you gave in the posting, I assumed that you weren't able to make use of that potential yet, so it would be wasted.

If you had read more than 2 lines of my posting, you would've seen that there's a link to a very useful topic that includes a lot of which has been said here already and more.

Total stealth? Partial stealth? Whats the priority in the first 5 minutes of the round? Ive got a few different perk setups, but I havent set up a class of all 3 stealth perks. I really enjoy the UAV jammer. Question is, do I need to be 100% sleathly?

                              Yeah right.

Ive read pretty much every useful thread through. Tips thread was the first to go. I dont really need "more" tips. I need something that is far more useful, far more educational. I need to know how a successful players mind works.
