    Are All Games Dead?

There's been some posts on the forums recently saying that (insert random game) is dead. I think this is because there are so many HUGE titles out at the moment so it seems like ALL games are dead. I mean ET:QW for example may be a good game but how can it stand up against competition like Crysis and CoD 4? The games are basically killing each other...

Yeah I was really into Team Fortress 2.. then cod4 came out and I have only played it for about an hour since cod4 came out.. not much other good game's coming out tho.. Once cod4 get's a little older Im sure people will start playing other game's agian.. when I did get on Team Fortress 2 there was just as much server's up and all of them where full so it does not look like it affected the player's to much..

High expectations get ruined on date of release, lack of support from the outset does the rest.

Also, many of the games nowadays are focused on the features and tidbits forgetting that the game should be FUN first and foremost. Extra shizzle should be there not for eye or brain candy, it should be for fun, for enhancement of that fun. You can see a boatload of otherwise amazing games fail to deliver in that department.

I know! I used to play CSS and BF2 like everyday, but now with COD4, Crysis, Gears of War, they don't have that "fun" factor like these new games do.

A lot of games don`t have that something Quake 2, Unreal, Duke 3D and UT99 had.
UT3 seems to be the only game that might give me the warm feeling I had playing Q2 with 25 other random people at my local lan cafe (or whatever you call em in english.)
Q2, weapons mod, the edge map was the s*it I say.

I'm not sure if I agree with you... Any examples of games that give eye candy and brain candy but not fun? :)

I always call them Cyber Cafés... What IS the correct term? Gawd I miss the old days when you were like 40 random people playing BFV at my local cyber cafe... :p

Chea, we even played UT99 at school during lunch... we had tournaments and stuff. At least some things were good about private school...

Sure, the most recent ones being Crysis and ETQW.

                  Eye candy- check
                  Brain candy- check
Fun factor- check game-monitor.com for stats

I could go into details whats "wrong" with the games, but I let the numbers speak for themselves and let you take my word for it. Just think of Karkand vs Shongua.

                  As for COD4

                  Eye candy- check
Brain candy- debatable, but Id check it
                  Fun factor- through the roof

People dont stick to a certain game because they need to feel popular. They stick to a game and devote themselves to it because its damn fun. A game can be a technological achievement, a groundbreaking piece of software (Crysis), but if its not fun to play, its not going to be played.

Again, you can disagree with me using the simple "but i think Crysis is fun lolz", and Ill just point you towards game-monitor.com and let you come up with your own conclusions.

crysis isnt doing as good as anticipated because of the huge system requirements. like come on, even with the PC in my sig, I still can't play on low settings with a decent framerate.

cod4 is good, and the numbers show it.

i'm not exactly sure why ETQW isn't doing good. I played the MP demo and I liked it a lot, but I'm not into the type of alien-vs-human type scenario

medal of honor airbourne... hasn't EA already abandoned that game? I read that they're getting barely any support...

I stick with BF2 because of the massive amounts of people on one server with maps that match the player size. That's the kind of gameplay I like. Lots of people, big maps. I'm also going to be picking up UT3 this christmas for that very reason. if another game like BF2 comes, especially with todays technoglogy and can have 128+ people on one server with insanely huge maps, air vehicles, land vehicles, sea vehicles, infantry, etc, I will probably move on from bf2.

so that's why I haven't moved on to crysis or cod4, cause they don't give me what bf2 does

The games market has reached a level of saturation, the DX10 system is new, and its a tough fight to get the graphics that people want, and make it affordable.

To me, COH got boring, COD4 is good, BF2142 and BF2 are boring, TF2 is ok.

So.. its reaching a point of stagnation.

ET:QW was dead before it was born.
BF2 is far from dead, BF2142 is dying.
Crysis is still a baby and CoD4 is a adult.

Loved Crysis tbh and it actually ran on my system, I am also the rarity of a person that doesn't buy into the COD franchise because it is in many ways sub par, but hey most games are sub par

Im just glad I got my nano suit and my steam games to keep me goin

Wonder if BF3 will actually be able to pass itself off as a game...

                            BF3? Hopefully.

Hope is the key word there.

I`m sure a lot of people are gonna buy BF3 with its 6 maps, one gamemode and ridiculous gameplay. It`s BATTLEFIELD after all.
