    Highway Tampa discussion

just thought tampa deserves its own thread instead of being stuck in various 1.4 threads.
my first impression was "what a featureless map"... flat and all, the dice people musta been feeling lazy. i'm not so much of an armour person so i found it a little boring, jihad-jeeped a few times to great success =D
i must say however the emptiness makes for variety though. it's possible to storm through the bases with a mini-formation of tanks, APCs and gunships and decimate everything.
i guess most people (where i live, anyway) are more new to the map and still trying out the features. might see more action then. in the meantime, jihad jeep and watch my SPM decline =D

It's awesome playing with clans and going in formation with walkers and tanks storming an enemy stronghold. Makes you feel like a real squad.

had that experience once, driving an APC with a tank. my gunner took out the pilums, i emped all the armour and jihad jeeps, and the tank took out the rest. tampa is a nice place for buddy requests (:
although i did manage to find such a well-knit squad yesterday on conquest that i ended up playing for longer than i planned. SL gave good orders, squaddies revived and stayed together and stuff, we went around Belgrade capping the critical flags and stuff. that really brought a smile to my face, especially when attacking Docks on Tunis... our squad combined took out about 35 people single-handedly o.O

Personally i think its a great map. I was on it on sunday for the first time and despite the lack of scenary its good fun. The gas station is just manic at times and last nite we managed to hold on to it. In that time we also destroyed there armoured petallion and then our group of 3 nekomatas, 2 walkers and and apc headed over to the checkpoints. Not forgetting me in my fav :P.

        Great map

B.T.W any one who are planning to play it sometime add me on xfire. my name is benno93

        :salute:

Some things i noticed for this map I like to point out

-For titan rounds, I noticed the main spawn design layout for the EU base made it easy for rambo lone wolves to drive in and hijack one of the 3 talon gunships. But the PAC main spawn layout made it exceedingly hard because the area where their doragon spawns is completely enclosed within a fenced area and tank barriers stop anyone from driving in and hijacking the gunship

-Lots of nice open spaces for FAVs to roam free, dotted with rocky hills and vehicle wrecks to play around, but why are there like mini bases with their flags or silos set up in the middle of no where and are unusually crowded and cramped from all the surrounding objects or buildings?

-on the titan version of the map, for the silos closest to the main base spawns, the EU gets an extra tank spawn there. I don't know if the hover tank is better than the conventional one, but is it fair for them to get an extra tank?

edit: my mistake, different sides get different number of vehicles that spawn depending on the silo/flag taken. And there are definately 3 gunships per side in this map, including one that spawns outside the titan hangar. Very vehicle happy map. Watch out for the motion mines!

            I love it!

Like you said! You can get a formation of tanks with walkers and apcs and just storm trough the dessert to a base!

Theres way to much cityfight/infantry servers out there. I would like to play with tanks once in a while and in highway tampa this is really fun!

i'm a man of action, i prefer clarking my way through squads though. it's much easier to find noobs to clark on servers than to find a well-rounded squad who will team up with you, im sure you'll agree.

ive played the map like 3 times and won all 3 of em because my team 16vs16 was just one complete squad 16 players trying to cap flags and stuff and each time we capped a flag we left 2 people for defence and when it got attacked the gunship pilots raced away to that point to search and destroy enemies :P

Incredibly fun map, just as fun as any other map imo It's a tad big, they could have narrowed it down a little bit but it's still great...

                  Gunship heaven :yay:

Try to put some c4 in a Walker, let the enemy get the walker, and when he is on formation blow the c4, I´ve took 1 walker, 2 tanks and 1 infantry with one click.
Funny as hell, and they didn´t even know how I did it LOL.
They just exploded in the middle of nowhere.

I almost never play as recon, but I will try more in highway tampa, so many tanks in a cramped formation eh eh.

I think Highway Tampa is too big for great 16v16 action. I mean, the silos themselves are not vehicle-friendly even though this is a vechicle map, the silos have a few narrow openings with not much room to manuever. Driving a vehicle in is asking to get MM'd or Pilumed, and staying outside is asking to get hit by a gunship. There is too little cover outside the silos and too much cover inside. Also, there are not enough people to fill all the vehicles therefore there are always empty vehicles around the silos making it easy for defenders to booby-trap them so attackers can not use them and for the defenders to jump into them if the attackers come on foot. If DICE/EA wanted to make a great vehicle map, they should have just resurrected the Aberdeen map from BF1942 - no jeeps, no air, just armor.

Once the titan shields go down the map is just silly there weren't enough people o the map to begin with, let alone now allocating some to attack or defend the titan. You essentially need about 5 defending, 5 attacking, and 5 on the ground, which if it does not lead to a quick victory leads to stalemates on the titan and round-robins on the ground. Boring.

This is a map the rewards team-play in a big way, but how often does that happen on a pub server?

I have found it frustrating so far, there are just not enough people to use the resources. You can't even get an armored column together effectively, let's just say you have a 2 tanks, an APC, and Walker - at two men per that is half your team. All the enemy needs to do is have three guys in a jeep or transport running to the flags where your column isn't. Furthermore, the column could easily get decimated at a silo with a couple of engineers with gunship support.

Great map for large servers, not so great for scrims and such. The problem with a mostly armor map in a rather organised situation is that it only takes 3-4 people (who are good and working together) to take out almost any amount of armor.

They should really lower walker respawn times on this map though, seeing as how tanks basicly only defense from gunships and battle-transports are walker AA weapons. Walkers are also REALLY easy to take out with the shear number of tanks and the fact those tanks can use range to there advantage easily.

My best moment on Tampa was taking out 5 tanks in a 3 minute span :p They were all leaving their uncap, and my team was going toward theirs (going for a cap out). I was in a Tiger, and they were also in Tigers. Anyway, I don't know what happened, but it seems like they simply didn't notice me pop up behind them and pump a shell into each of their rears :p After that they got together with a few more tanks, and the combined force of 6 tanks was too much for me I was going for my Armor Ribbon, and I COULD have gotten it... Sad thing is, I only spent 15 minutes in armor when 20 were needed. I got my 20 kills really fast, but what kind of a requirement is 20 minutes IaR? The stinking match only lasted 18 Minutes!

I love tampa, it's an armor battle royal. The score per minute is lame, but the rounds are fun

I think snipers shouldn't be underestimated on a map like this. They might not get crazy scores like on Camp G. (because there might be dead moments. Then again, name a kit that can't get a crazy score on Camp G.), but they van be a real pain in the arse on a map like this.

You can't get out to repair your vehicle when there's a sniper around, and on a map like this they can take you out from so far away that you can't even hear the shot. And there are no medics around to heal you up after you've taken a shot to the body. With Zeller they can kill you whit your own motion mines while you're throwing them around. And of course they can boobytrap your tank even before you get in it.

I like the map already because it's one where assault might be one of the most useless kits (yeah yeah yeah... still not completely useless :)).
