  • Sniper class: TIPS & HINTS

    Hi all :salute:

I'm not new at the Battlefield 2, just have been promoted to Gunnery Sergeant, and i have a question for all of you snipers out there:

I have unlocked all the sniper rifles, and i have the The Basic Sniper award but i have problems with hiting the enemy with any of the sniper rifles. I know that L96A1 is the most accurate but I still have problems, i do kill some one but that is rare...

Can some one give me some tips & hints on sniping, oz possibly show me in the game.

    Thanks :salute:

Look for other snipers to kill. Stationary targets are easier to hit. If your aiming at a moving target aim a little bit in front of their heads (lead them a little bit) and if your not comfortable with trying to make a head shot on a moving target just go for the body. Most times 2 shots kill. Remember to cover your rear with claymores. If you kill another sniper but you know your positions been revieled then relocate quickly. Tall buildings are where most people look for other snipers so if you can snipe from the ground then do. Hide in some tall grass, under a dock, etc.. Be creative and use your imagination. If you actually stop and look at the map your playing you will see alot of good places to snipe from without putting yourself out there.
        Good luck and have fun,

As I recollect, grass is not visible to an enemy at distance so when you think you are hidden in grass you arn't, as I found out to my cost.

I too found my hitrate as a sniper very poor with most rifles until I unlocked the L96A1. I think the combination of a decent rifle plus getting the hang of where to aim has vastly improved my hitrate, so much so that in one game (Gulf of Oman) from a single position near the beachhead, I was hitting the enemy behind the railway, in the building behind the railway cars with just the minutist top of their head showing. I even managed to kill a few on top of the crane . I was doing well until I was assasinated by knife. Considering this was a "No Cross" server and this chap had to run through the best part of his enemy map to get to me, I consider this a compliment.

I also get an indication of kill/partial hit by a yellowish cross that appears near the target. To do this I keep the LH mouse button down after I have fired.

Most of the time I concentrate on nonmoving targets like other snipers other other campers. Aim for the upper part of the head and you have some compensation for the bulletdrop.
Try to find a spot where you can snipe and defend your flags and you will get some kills + flag defend points. A lot of unexperienced players just lay down at the flag and wait till it turns = easy kill.
If you don't kill with the first shot quickly switch to your pistol and finish.

Every 100 meters after 150m you need to raise your scope 1-2px for bullet drop. Lead your moving targets. Look for other snipers, and like someone else said, be imaginative with your hiding spots. The M95 does more damage to Assault, AT, and Support than the other guns. If you feel you havent got time to chamber another round, switch to pistol, and depending on kit, fire as many bullets as needed. If you see an enemy get shot, shoot him aswell! He may have enough health taken off for you to get the kill. Use clays on flags to let you know when people are there, or use them to cover your back if you have found a place to stay for a while. If you get spotted, and are taking hits MOVE! Don't sit around trying to find your enemy. If you are in an enemies base, SHOOT them DON'T knife them! If you knife them they will know you are there, in the base. If you shoot them they won't have a clue. However the knife is good for when you confronted up close. As with every kit the pistol is underrated. Try to use it to it's full effect. If you are using the SVD, put the top triangle a bit to the left of your targets head. Snipers don't always have to be long range. And don't use the same place after you've just been killed in that position. Use your surroundings to your advantage (the odd bush here and there) Don't run and jump into/onto your cover, you will get seen, get close to it and crawl to it. Don't silhouette yourself on buildings/hilltops. If you are going to sit on a hill, sit a bit of the way down, so the hill acts as a backdrop. If you have the M95, shoot at enemy choppers that are on fire, you may get lucky. And don't listen to the people that say snipers are noobs, claywhores or unskilled.
Those are just some tips I have picked up from guides, people's videos and 180 ish hours of sniper (2 accounts).

While we are discussing sniper issues.

I was checking the requirements for a snipers specialist badge in bf2Stats.nl.

For veteran status it says you need 22 kills as sniper & 16 hours while sniper. As I have 75 kills and 26 hours as a sniper I wondered why I hadn't received the specialist badge or even the basic badge. I then checked BF2Player.com and discovered that the hours and kills for a sniper specialist badge can only be qualified in a BF2 SF map. The hours and kills for sniper combat basic badge can be anywhere. But then why haven't I received a basic badge for my 75 kills and 26 hours. Am I misssing something here?

As far as concealment goes, I find that you should always try to set up in places where you have full cover (building, vehicle, wall, etc.) on at least two sides. It may limit your field of fire, but it also keeps you alive longer as you can only be hit from one direction.

Also, try to move after every 1-2 kills. Never just sit in one area.

                    1) How can you have only 75 kills in 26hrs of playing with the Kit?

                    2) You get your badges by meeting the required number of hours played with the kit, and by achieving the required number of kills in a round.

Ex: You use the Sniper kit for 16hrs, and then, while playing as a sniper, you get 20 kills in a round, therefore you get your Veteran Sniper badge.

Go to youtube and type in "BF2 Sniper School", or something along those lines, there is a great video, infact there are a few episodes, i think there are 5 they are a great help.

                      Infact, here are some links:

Battlefield 2 sniper training video showing graphic differances and sniper locations.

Battle field 2 sniper training showing kit utilization.

One last tip, find a server that has a 64 player limit and make sure it is full. Also make sure it is a city map and that vehicle are turned off. Now what you'll get is a situation where a total melee occurs. You'll have guys running about shooting at whatever is the closest and paying very little attention to anything that isn't literally in their face.

Think about it if you have 30 or so people all round one flag trying to capture it the best place and person to be is the sniper 150M away on top of the building watching over this. Cheap easy targets.

You realize that using pixels as a measurement doesn't work, because people have different resolutions and screen sizes?

Well, it works if you yourself has a high resolution, but not if you have it on low resolution, but who plays on low resolution as a sniper?
