Why do you use the reason that you are "facing certain death" as cause for finding ramming acceptable? It's not, because you're not facing certain death. Press E, bail out, parachute, land, pull out your anti-air gun and SHOOT THE CRAP INTO THEM. If you can't fly sufficiently well to keep your air vehicle in the air without having to ram someone to kill them, then practice or don't fly. You cannot justify ruining someone elses fun because of your own inadequacies.

There is only one occasion where ramming is acceptable - and that's when it's ENTIRELY accidental. For example, if you're emped mid-air during a dive and you crash into the target you're shooting. Nothing much you can do about that, you got emped. Or perhaps if you're in a headlong gunfight with a gunship and you fly in the same direction to avoid each other - it happens, nothing much you can do sometimes if you both were thinking the same thing, but that's evasive, not intentional.

You ALWAYS have the choice to bail out and use foot. Start trying. Pack a SAAW when you take off and be more prepared next time.

i love to ram i wont deny it, i wont do it out right but if the teams getting raped by a walker then so be it.

people blowing up rdx at your feet withh ff=off is worse

i think if they changed the respawn time to 1 min or 1 min 30 then i think it would deter the out right ramming

I loved the argument that in BF2 US forces shouldn't ram and get minus points for jihad jeeps but for the middle east side it was OK seems sensible to me lol

I see some of you trying to say no ramming is acceptable or that I am changing the no ramming rule just to suit my own needs. That's not the case. Also, you morons that want to tell me to bail out, for one, if I had, I would've been in out of area territory and would've died because I couldn't get out of that zone quickly enough. I also had a support kit, not anti-air at all. You also try to flame me and basically say I can't pilot, so I rammed. That isn't the case either, because I can fly fairly decently. I'm by no means overly skilled at it (am in transports though..), but I don't suck either.

As for those that say just because I was going to die, that didn't mean I could ram as a last resort. Like you would actually just kill yourself or let yourself be killed. If you would, you're a bigger idiot than I thought. You go ahead and do that next time...

As for "No ramming means no ramming". I got rammed four times that round, from their own team mates, do they get b****ed at? Nope. Granted, I didn't complain to them about it either. I said I was rammed, but nobody asked by who or anything, they didn't care, it was for the good of their own team. If a walker is at a silo killing all of my team mates and nobody can do anything about it, if he's still there by the time I make it there, I will ram him. Better to suffer the ram than to let him keep killing my teammates off like that. It's a piss poor tactic, yeah, but on his side, he's got a walker vs a bunch of assaults/support troops on foot, real fair that is too aint it...

As for the jihaders, I'm usually in an APC. If I see someone running towards me with rdx all over their fav, they'll be greeted with an emp and a fist full of rounds from my machine gun.

Ramming is acceptable at certain times. If it's the only thing you've got against someone murdering all your team, you have to. If you don't, then you're not helping your team. But when you're in an apc driving somewhere and out of nowhere, you get a transport up the a**, that's bs and isn't acceptable.

Anyway, for anyone else who wants to be an idiot and try and flame me about what I did in my gunship...
I had nothing to fight a gunship on foot if I had bailed.
If I had bailed, I wouldn't died from being too far into the out of area zone.
If I had bailed, the gunship most likely would have gunned me down with his passenger.
At the angle I was attacking from (straight at 'em) and at the speed I was going (full speed, down angle), I couldn't have stopped either. He could've easily spun around and chased me and killed me.
My choices were simple, die or die and take them with me. If you would just die and not try to take them out as well, you're an idiot and don't reply in my thread anymore.
There was no option of me getting out of it, so don't try and come up with ways I could've escaped or things I could've done.

"And how is the Administrators supposed to distinguish between those types of ramming?"
They can't really, but a person ramming only once in four rounds helps. People that ram constantly are usually pointed out and that helps for the admins to distinguish between them.

No-one's trying to flame you, you just need thicker skin, stop being so sensitive and listen to some criticism.

When someone gets in a gunship to fly round, they don't expect to be rammed. Being rammed is a dishonest way of ruining someone elses enjoyment in a game. In a war, you can't utilise your very expensive high powered air vehicles as a tool to fly round and crash into things. You're actually expected to bring them back after a mission for reuse. But anyway, in response to your points.

Ramming isn't acceptable, even to bring down the most experienced gunship pilot who's making a mockery of your team. If your team had any sense, they'd work together to take him down. It's not difficult. A few AA turrets with a few SAAW's and he'll probably bail before you kill him. Saying it's acceptable to ram a walker that's doing well against your side? Walkers are EASY to take out. Two shots to the leg joints with a pilum or rorsch and he's smoking. You cannot use the ineptitude of your team as an excuse to ruin someone elses fun, and by evading the challenge of using teamwork to take him down by just saying "oh well, I'll just drop a plane on his head" - that's "piss poor" in your own words, and you cannot and did not justify or defend that effectively.

Also, it's not idiotic or stupid to die once in a round because you don't want to deliberately ram because you've been outdone. If you've been bested, get over it.

            a) why were you flying out of bounds? fly in bounds, it's still easy to keep a gunship alive, and you can often time your bailing to get in bounds and behind cover.
            b) Should've packed some anti-air before you go - it's common sense!. Placing some form of sonar on your gunship at the start also helps you evade danger, so no excuse not to really, especially since whilst you're in a vehicle, your kit is somewhat useless anyway, so choosing one that'll best help you in emergency is a better plan.
            c) if you're going to die anyway, what's wrong with taking one death because you got outflown? not just kamikaziing into the other gunship because you can't kill him the traditional way? Chances are, you're going to die a lot more in the round to other people doing other things, why can't you accept being killed in the air?
            d) It's always easy to move away from a collision in the gunship. Hold S, lift your nose up and you can come to a halt RIDICULOUSLY quickly. It's a practice thing, not a "I can't so guess I'll have to ram".

Here, let me help put things in perspective. If YOU'RE the person flying well, or YOU'RE the person doing well in a walker and nailing infantry, what are you going to think when your approaching new kill-streak record gets effectively pancaked by some noob in a transport who's upset because they're not getting their own way and can't kill you? If you can honestly tell me you'd brush it off and say "ah well, there's nothing he could do" - then I'd be impressed, but I'd call you a liar.

Finally, don't resort to calling other people flamers when you LAY OUT THE BAIT. Calling people idiots and morons who respond to your thread in a way which doesn't agree with your opinion is excruciatingly narrow-minded, not to mention calls into question why the thread was made in the first place. If you don't want to hear what people have to say, why make a thread about it? Because I'm sure as hell most people here aren't going to condone blatant vehicle ramming because the game isn't going your way. I'm giving you my opinion, if you don't like it, lump it.

You're talking out your ***. I often fly into the enemy gunship unintentionally as I'm too focused on releasing that last missile before pulling away. However if I'm on my last legs and can take the foe down with me then hell yeah I'm gonna do it.

Raming is a viable tatic...but can get really frustrating when 2 or 3 guys from the other team do it constantly.
Several days ago I was playing in a server and i couldn´t even help my team because I was allways looking at the sky to see when the next transport would dive in my direction
It was insane, I quit playing in the server after I killed a tranport and went to my base to repair the tank, mind you that the first transport strike was at the doorsteps of the base...it took me 5 seconds to reach the base, when I pop out of the tank for repair I look at the sky and another transport was allready diving in my direction...death and tank destroyed.
It was like an arty strike of transports.

The occasional raming is annoying but ok by me but people that get on transports just to ram should be kicked.

Exactly, that's the "not okay" ramming I'm talking about.

Lolyn, ugh.. I'm not responding. I had a good flaming I could've said, but I wont.

As for spoiling the game for someone else, they wouldn't mind spoiling it for me, not to mention everyone else that has been killed.

Now you're just being silly We're talking about game-ettiquette, NOT not shooting the enemy because you're scared of hurting their feelings. Learn to discriminate between the two before you attempt at baiting me further :)

More to the point - I thought you had a good flaming that you withheld? what's with the baiting then? I thought you weren't responding to me? Actually, just don't bother. If you're not willing to bring suitable responses to my perfectly valid arguments to the table, then mate, practice what you preach and don't say anything at all :), because all you've done there is pick up on a point someone else said, and ignore everything else I've said. I don't understand the point in starting a topic if you aren't going to like, listen to or learn from what's going to be said in it.

I'd rather not be childish about this, but I find it a sorry state of affairs, when I, your younger, am the person with his toys secured firmly in his pram. Now if you sincerely feel the desire to respond with any attempt at baiting or inflammatory remarks, then by all means, go right ahead, but you might be in breach of the forum rules - and that's not the smart way to go if you enjoy posting here.

Toughen up, accept some criticism/disagreement over your opinions, and move on.

--edit-- that's upsetting, your typos spoiled my formatting. Ah well. And we all know Bush couldn't hit the broad side of a barn door with any fire-arm. Pseudo-Quote successfully invalidated.

Your points are not valid and I said not to bring those worthless points back to my thread again because I thought I made it clear enough that people like you could understand, guess I didn't. I didn't bait you either.

Put simply, you're an idiot and this is the last time I will acknowledge your replies. I agree with TrooperJac, you just talk out of your *** too much.

Explain to me with adequate justification why my points aren't valid, and I will gladly raise my hands from my keyboard and not post here in your thread any longer. Incidentally, you have no rights to say who may and may not post in your thread my friend, so this is out of choice that I offer you that.

If you're not baiting, then you didn't need to call me an idiot, nor did you need to pass derogatory judgement on my opinions by labelling them worthless - although as the majority of us know, opinions are like asses, blahblahblah Seriously though, you're making this too easy, and you haven't made a post directed at me yet that doesn't bait or insult me in some way, plus we should also factor in the inherent aggression present - so maybe you could tone down a notch and we can debate this over as peacefully as no doubt you originally intended instead of getting so sore about things.

If the enemy gunship is raping my side, taking it out by any means is OK by me.

Repeated Air-to-Ground ramming in a transport is pretty darn annoying, although doing it once to take out a walker that is raping your side is reasonable. Theoretically the walker should be able to defend itself. Although I really hate that ramming transport pilots can bail out and survive.

As a server administrator i thought i would put my point in too.

                              Ramming:
                              • If you survive the ram I.E. your in an air transport and you use your superior armor to nudge out a gunship, that is fine you are using the vehicle strength.
                              • If it is an accidental ram, then there should be no kicks/bans, it is an accident, but the least I would accept is an apology to the victim, if it was an accident.
                              • If it is done on purpose and suicidal, then that is a definite warn, at least.
And you say you have no other choice, these are my choices if you were in those situations you mentioned.
                              • Hurtling towards the enemy gunship after a failed attempt to kill him/her, I would attempt to avoid the enemy gunship with my gunship skills then proceed with evasive maneuvers, most likely an S flip. If there is NO chance of avoiding collision then I would bail out and use my Pilum/Sudnik to shoot that other gunship down. If I did collide with then enemy gunship trying to avoid it, I would immediately apologize, and hope the victim sees the light side of it and accepts the apology.
                              • In an air transport with a gunship on the chase, low armor, in this situation I would. Activate Active Defense, re-position and attempt to bail out and use my pod to kill the gunship, if this fails I would simply bail out and do what i said before, attempt to pick the gunship out of the sky.
Another note on people saying Podding a vehicle is ramming, well technically it is, but it is a survivable ram, unlike these suicide air transport maniacs.

Podding is completely different IMO as you can't really go far anyway, without pod surfing I mean. Frosty, I don't think you read or absorbed what I said about the situation. I had no options of survival or even putting up a fight, he would've been on my tail while my shields were recharging. So it was die by him or die killing him, simple choice.
